We stayed here on Aug 14-18 2010. It was my first trip back to the Outer Banks since I was a child. It was a last minute trip so by the time I started calling around hotels, most were booked. I found the cabanas and loved the idea. Oceanfront and privacy, what more could you ask for....Well, we arrived early, no problem, but as we entered I immediately realized why it was so inexpensive, the room was VERY dirty. Even though linens were not provided, I expected the beds should have been made as it is in their list of rules upon leaving, you have to remake the beds, clearly no one had been in to clean this room or even check that housekeeping had done their job. The floors were sticky and gross. I ended up hand washing them with paper towells and dish soap because they were so bad and by the looks of it, they had not been mopped in months!!! Sad that I had to personnaly clean someones beach rental, that was not in the agreement! This Cabana was very out dated and had no real decorations, which is ok, if you maintain your rental property. There was a bedroom dresser being used as a kitchen cabinet!!! They simply slide the dresser right under the counter, which btw was very obvious!!! The wood panelling was not so bad but on the 2nd day when we opened the door and the neglected door handle fell off, I was just blown away!!! Anyways, besides the floors, dishes, sinks, bath tub, glass doors, and both decks being dirty (trash was left on them), the place was not so bad. We had come for the beach and luckily that is were we spent most of our time. I would not have even wrote this review had the people renting the cabanas out had not been so dismissive and clearly ignored the situation as they blamed it on their housekeeper, saying they had been having some problems.....Clearly!!! I dont know if I will ever stay at the Hatteras Cabanas again, I know I will never stay in #33, but I will with out a doubt be coming back to the Outer Banks!!!!

Stayed in the Hatteras Cabanas for our first OBX visit in September. Arrived 3 hours early and had no problem with getting an early check in. The decorations and layout in our cabana (#27) were great. We were just over the dunes from the ocean and could watch the waves from our top deck (or our bottom deck or our couch with the window open). We forgot to turn the icemaker on and the rental office even had an ice machine and we got a bag for our beach cooler for only $2. We will be back next year

Privacy and peace at the ocean's door. Just walk over the dune and you are on the beach. The Hatteras Cabanas are the best kept secret on the outer banks. The ONLY place you can have your own mini beach house and not have to vacation with all of your relatives to pay for it... if you are a single, a couple or a small family - you have to check out these little gems by the sea!

Perfect for a couple. Spent part of our honeymoon there. Can't beat the price. Only a few steps to the beach. It's like staying in a little cabin, but you're at the beach. Unfortunately, they were destroyed by Hurricane Isabel. Hopefully they will rebuild.
