Great place to stay 4/24/2012

Before we started renting homes, we always stayed at the Beacon. My parents would stay in the OF room, and my brother, nephew, and I would stay in the poolside section.
We love and miss the Beacon, but it's much more convenient to rent a house. The staff is wonderful. We always pre-booked for the next year, and we always felt so welcome. Everyone from the owner to housekeeping to maintenance were so friendly. They all would talk to you, make you feel welcome, and help you with any concerns (whether it be an issue with the room or a dinner suggestion).
The rooms are clean, and the property is well kept. It's older and it's not glamorous, but that didn't matter to us. The price is right, the views are great, and it's clean.
The OF rooms are small/basic. They have a great view, queen bed, tv, and chair. Walk out the room to the OF patio which is great. Nice added bonus was the mini fridge/microwave. Only downfall to this room is the bathroom is TINY. It served it's purpose, but for bigger people like us it was a little difficult.
We stayed in a couple other sections, but our favorite was the rooms with the kitchens. It had much more room (room and bathroom) plus a full size fridge and little cooktop/oven with table in kitchen. All the other rooms face to pool, with a quick walk up the ramp to the OF patio.
I'd recommend this place to anyone. Friendly staff, affordable prices, great views, and clean.

We decided to come down a few days early for our Sunday to Sunday rental and stayed at the Beacon on Friday and Saturday nights. It was perfect for our family of 4. The rooms are on the small side, but clean, and the motel is oceanfront and they have a pool. We were very happy with the accomodations and will stay there again!

My husband and I were on our first trip to the Outer Banks. It was a "quickie" trip, and we didn't know anything about the place. We were tired of driving so, we saw the Beacon and stopped. We were pleasantly surprised! The room was much nicer then we expected, a little small, but with that great view of the ocean, we didn't care. The price wasn't bad either!!

This is an older property but kept up nicely. After running from the Outer Banks Motor Lodge, which should be condemned, we found the Beacon through the AAA Travel Guide. Some beachfront rooms, but I believe these are usually booked in advance. Wasn't luxury, but suitable for a fun family vacation. Particularly with young children - there's a pool, two wading pools, and a small playground which the kids enjoyed.
