OK, I have stayed here a couple of times. I honestly can't say I like the way the rooms look. However, both times I found the rooms to be clean. They are really old, and really ugly, but I don't go to the beach to spend all my time in a motel room. If you don't have the money to stay at an expensive place and are willing to overlook mismatched, ugly furnishings then give it a try. It's not as bad as people are trying to make it out to be.

Close to the beach but is rundown, dirty, and in need of renovation. We have read the reviews that seem to praise the owners but not the motel or its rooms. We, personally, don't care whether the owners are great people...in this economy and as hard as we have to work for our money, we care about the condition of the beds and rooms...and, trust me, they are old and rundown. The other reviews are correct in saying that this motel has many problems.

Ok, we read the terrible reviews here, on Trip Advisor and a couple of other places online. Maybe the reviews were so shocking that we set our expectations super low. We called several months in advance and made reservations. They were very kind, helpful and honest about the type of rooms available. They pointed out that the rooms were traditional, older rooms.

When we arrived we were checked in quickly and everyone was friendly. Our room, an efficiency, was super dated. The furnishings were mismatched. We even laughed at the appliances, since they were so old. BUT, the room was clean. The toilet, sink and tub, kitchen counters, and floors were obviously just cleaned. The room had a neutral if not pleasant smell. The AC worked great and the room was actually cold.

Final analysis: If you need a place to stay, can't afford the higher priced places, and aren't terribly picky, you'll do fine here. IF you want to tack a day on at the beginning or end of vacation this place is great. (That's what we did.)

Honestly, if there were more places like this left on the OBX, it would be attracting a different crowd, and might just be a better place. Maybe they will try to upgrade the place in the days to come.

We checked this motel out because of its excellent location but were sadly disappointed by the filthiness and old rundown furnishings. You should camp if you are low on money...don't stay at this place.

We stayed there in 2005 and it was very old with a gap under the door. Very old appliances. Rusty pans. Would not recommend.

Many, many years ago, when we first started coming to the island- maybe '87?- we stayed here over the Memorial Day weekend with our two little girls (who are now adults!) It was inexpensive, clean, and had a kitchenette where we were able to fry up the fish we caught!

I'm not sure how it is now, but it was great at the time for a young couple who were short on cash!!!
