Sanderling Sold

Sanderling Sold

I didn't find a thread on this, but thought it might be interesting to folks here.

The Sanderling Resort has been sold to a NY investment firm for $38 million.

Property Manager is not changing, but the new owners plan to add 24 more guest rooms before the start of next year's peak season.

RE: Sanderling Sold

I read somewhere that they tried to get the county to allow another story on the building, maybe for the rooms. The county said no so maybe that idea was scrapped or they have new plans.

RE: Sanderling Sold

Town of Duck ordinances limit building height to 35 ft. Sanderling put in a proposal (last spring, maybe?) to add extra rooms and requested a variance allowing them to exceed the 35 feet. Duck declined. (Many homeowners came to support the 35 foot limit, both because it would infringe on their current view and for slippery slope reasons.) Sanderling then put in a new proposal which would allow extra rooms without exceeding the 35-foot limit, which was approved. I'm not quite sure how they're going to fit three stories under a 35-foot roof, but I think maybe they're converting from a peaked roof to a flat roof or something like that. If anyone is really curious, there are more details in the ToD town council meeting minutes.
