I hope this isn’t going to be a trend lol

Just browsing rental homes. Beautiful home on the outside really. Inside OMG can you please put up some decorations lol. Is minimalist now a thing in vacation rentals? It was god awful. Worse than walking iinto a dive motel with a velvet painting and massaging bed. What’s the deal??

Without knowing the property all I can do is guess. Perhaps new owners who haven’t taken delivery of new items? Theft?

Some renters can trash the place so owners do not put "nice" items on the walls. Typical reproduction pics to "decorate.". Home Goods cheap stuff, etc.

After closing with the Frisco home, I tossed most of that type of stuff except for the great whale pics in the "green" bedroom. Loved those. Replaced most with estate sale original paintings to give it some jazz. It's amazing what can be designed on a few pennies.

Being an estate sale gal, I could source nice wall hangings and such for our rentals without blowing too much dinero and it paid off nicely at sale time. I did receive nice reviews on our rentals. I only decorated/designed with what I liked hoping the renters would like it as well. Good solid stuff that if trashed by a renter, I wouldn't be upset by the loss monetarily.

Renters need to think out of the box to grab their rentals.

Our rental condo has a new owner. Love the decor, some of which is cleaver DIY. The unit is clutter free and efficiently organized with everything you need. These owners
Will have return renters for sure. Just perfect for us.

The rental we’ve used for 17 years has enough “decor” for 10 homes!

As a owner many renters treat home furnishings with little regard so we have to pick durable yet decorative and it is a fine line. Also when it comes time for paint. well the standard off white semi gloss that can be bought on a weekend is a solid choice as well.
We left a rental company and have been VRBO and private rentals for almost 9 years now and to be honest in the last 3 years the VRBO crowd has become almost as bad as when we had no control over the rentals through the agency.

It is a fine line, Alexy, and you are right. You probably recognize this old pine dining table from your stay there. It was terrible!!!! But....solid pine and evidently never cared for since 1987 and renters never taking any care with it. Work with what you have knowing someone will trash it.

After sanding and clear sealer applied procedure done seven times ...good as new. I stood on it and jumped to test it and it didn't move. I shabby painted the under base with white paint and didn't blow any money...that I don't have!! Trashed the horrible chairs and ordered new ones.

Ya just gotta be inventive knowing some people may not care about an owner's wallet.

The Frisco home is not a rental, but the same has been done with previous rental homes owned the past 20 years.

Before and after pics...

Just had to add a sweet note: My son at age 12, for Christmas, bought me the Cape Hatteras S&P set on the table (not my style), but of course, I raved over it since he took so much time finding something like this for me since he knew I loved HI. I wouldn't trade it for a million dollars! And...the next year he bought me one for my table in VA! It sits in the log cabin happily!

WOW! We have always treated rentals as our own. Appreciating the money
spent to allow my time at the beach.

That's sweet! And most people do treat homes nicely. Had a couple of really bad experiences in the 15 years renting before I retired and decided that was that. Unfortunately, the "bad renters" stories loomed too large. It's nice to keep it to myself now and to leave my toothbrush there....
