I saw on IG this morning that the house (you referred to it recently on this forum) that was being moved last week is still standing; BUT, it looks precarious.

Water had gone under it, but it was still standing for now...

RE: More to come

Saw that too.

Thanks for the link. I meant to screen shoot it or something and then couldn't find it after I had scrolled. Hopefully, it will be okay with all of the recent work done. They gave it their best shot.

Great, we need the rain but not the winds. This isn't even that hurricane over Jamaica, this just another nor east'r. Again

I stand by my observation that nor easters do far more damage to hatteras Island than hurricanes.

I agree, Alexy. With these recent storms in my mind, I dug up a couple of videos that I took in Feb this year of a Nor'easter and could not believe how bad the wind and sound waves were. The fireplace inside walls (metal or whatever the lining is) was creaking and creaking and rain lashing against the house. A lot of clean up outside after it was over. Fascinating, but vicious. Frisco Beach was eroded quite a bit.

I agree,
Hurricanes blow in and blow out usually in a matter of hours.
Nor easters usually last for 3 or more days

In the 70s Kitty Hawk oceanfront was the area for houses to wash away one after another. Many of the recently lost houses in Buxton and Rodanthe had not yet been built at that time. And yes, it was mostly the northeasters that were taking the Kitty Hawk oceanfront houses. A lot of them were going in during the winter time. Northeasters definitely take their toll on the oceanfront, but they are limited in the types of damage they can do to the rest of the Outer Banks. They can cause soundside flooding on the east west running banks south of Cape Hatteras. But aside from these two areas, northeasters are pretty harmless to the rest of the property on the Outer Banks. They rarely generate winds above 50 mph, and that limits wind damage. Hurricanes on the other hand, depending on their track and strength, have the potential to severely damage or destroy with wind and/or water any and all property anywhere on the Outer Banks.

Not to minimize the hardship caused by even recent hurricanes, but the Outer Banks has not seen a truly catastrophic hurricane during our lifetime. Even one of the local commercial fishermen interviewed in this documentary about Dorian admitted the storm caused minimal damage compared to what it had just done to the Bahamas.
