RE: Long range winter weather forecast

Snow Chicago! I remember trying to depart from O'Hare in a heavy snow storm. We sat in the plane on the tarmac for several hours, got de-iced three times and then they canceled my flight. It was a very bad experience.

That's terrible, Greg! What a huge pain for thee! And the airlines just snicker behind people's backs.

I was stuck on a runway at O'Hare in Feb 2021 and de iced twice, but luckily was able to take off. Went to Chicago to help daughter potty train a 2.5 year old and it was negative 4 and that wasn't the wind chill.

The worst part was flying into the Roanoke Blacksburg airport and there are always probs there with the mtns and the wind. Runway is just too short and the pilot has to quickly fly over a mtn and land fast. It was a hard landing and things were flying everywhere. The lady next to me from Africa and I looked at each other in terror and held onto each other until we stopped. Skid city and flames. It was terrible. Roanoke had some major problems with that scenario just a few months ago.

Yikes!!
I get that you gotta see those grandbabies, Bent, but I think after an experience like that I’d be riding my bike to Chicago before getting on another plane.

You're right. It's pretty bad. Now that we don't have an elderly dog, we'll probably drive. Mostly, I have gone by myself because of the dog and I go at least three times a year.

RE: Long range winter weather forecast

Last Christmas, daughter and three kids at the time flew into Roanoke and the fog was so terrible that they circled at least three times and didn't want to chance it getting over those mtns and decided to divert to Raleigh NC. (Son in law was working and driving later that week with their dog)

Had to pick them up the next day in Raleigh and the stories that she told about catching the airport bus at midnight to a seedy airport hotel just to get those kids in bed. She wanted us to wait and pick her up the next day so the kids could get some sleep. Throwing the baby up to her daughter into the bus and cramming the stroller up the steps while holding the hand of a three year old and luggage. She sure can hilariously tell a story. It was heck then though. We can laugh about it now...

Beautiful morning today with the sun out in Frisco and 59 degrees. A bit windy though.

And then that front started! Forrest Gump rain....

Have heat tape wrapped around outside pipe that is actually plugged in, so should be okay with upcoming 9 degrees wind chill in Frisco tomorrow.

Went from winds of 10 to a high of 30 in no time. Taken at 10:19 am. Can't figure out how to re set clock on this gadget.

RE: Long range winter weather forecast

Started today out like this. 5-6 inches, heavy and wet. But it's the most beautiful type. Time to rush out and get bread, milk and TP... yeah, nope.

RE: Long range winter weather forecast

No white stuff predicted here, but it's supposed to be 13° in the morning.

You must be north of Bmore. We got about an inch of pellet snow in Rockville.

RE: Long range winter weather forecast

North of Bawlmer, wind is blowin about 15-20 mph and the temp is 18. Wind chill is currently 3. Supposed to get down to 15 degrees tonight. This calls for something hot and spicy - chili.

RE: Long range winter weather forecast

Welp, it's now 14 with a minus 3 wind chill. Temps have been running 10-15 degrees below average for three weeks.

RE: Long range winter weather forecast

Frisco temp this morning. Cannot believe the "feel like" temp is 10. Really doesn't seem that long ago where I posted this same gadget with a " feel like" temp of 111.

Gadget is off an hour ahead!!! Pic taken at 6:55 am. Geesh....

Y'all stay warm!

RE: Long range winter weather forecast

It's definitely cold this morning. At least the wind has subsided, that's the part that amplifies it.

You're right! Seems like the wind won't blow in the summer when needed, and always blows in the winter.

RE: Long range winter weather forecast

Just drove over the Jughandle and cannot believe the frozen patches on it. Looks like Lake Michigan in the winter. And, the frozen patches reach out far...not just the shoreline of the sound.
