Of all the celebrities who grew up in Norfolk, none speak with a stronger Norfolkian accent than Lefty Driesell. He pronounces out as oot and Maryland as Merland. ezbuckwheat Yep. That eastern Va. accent is unmistakable. Sitting around the house = sittin' aboot the hoose. Although he is from more central Va., see Ward Burton. Stumpy Lynchburg, Nelson Co and Amherst! Strong in that accent. Know a bunch of 'em. They all sound the same.

Father in law was from Shipman and Lovingston (Nelson Co) and sister's husband hails from Amherst. I do love the accents. Met a fellow neighbor in Brigands Bay in Frisco at one of the street potlucks a couple of years ago and said he was from VA, but a little place no one had heard of. Shipman VA. Small world.

Don't forget about Staunton! Also if your from the Richmond area, the Powhite Parkway. Stratosman86 Yah, they don't pronounce the "U"! Why put a u in there if you don't pronounce it?
