Fireworks on the 4th

It has been said that you can judge the current economy by watching the amount of fireworks tourist bring to shoot off (illegal stuff). Pre covid the "extra" fireworks were much more common than last night, for example. I remember in 2017 or 18 the tourists came, but did not spend as much and the fireworks were much less, like last night. So if I read the fireworks correctly, 2025 is going to be crowded, but people won't be going out to spend money as much as during covid.

What were the fireworks like in your area?

RE: Fireworks on the 4th

Fireworks in Hatteras Village were exceptional! Displays went on for several hours all up and down the beachfront plus we could see the fireworks display in Avon through the hazy horizon. Probably the best in the last 15 years.
As for the crowds, the rentals are 90% (IMHO) but the guests seem much tamer than recent years......smaller family oriented groups. Ramp 49 and Ramp 55 were a parking lot but beachgoers were generally respectful and behaved while enjoying the clear and refreshing surf. The sandbars between Hatteras and Ocracoke drew many boaters and picnickers. The turn out for the Hatteras 4th of July golf cart parade was a little disappointing this year. USA Flag

Hatteras Inlet as per Lowtide yesterday. Was a nice respite from the beach!

I guess the only way to enjoy the reestablished beach at the inlet is by boat or on foot. I can’t imagine the NPS will ever let vehicles out there like before the closure and beach erosion. Although there was no way to drive out there when the Reg-Neg agreement was made into law, now that there is room to drive there I can’t see NPS relenting. Just like the south beach at the Point, the inlet was one of my favorite places to fish.

Ditto, SPQ..... Sad, isn't it ! If you've noticed the existing turtle nest right in the toe of the dune about a third of a mile west of Ramp 55, you'll appreciate that when the Rangers close the beach to the water as the "Hatch Window " approaches, there will only be about 1/3 of a mile of beach accessible by vehicle in all of Hatteras, south of the drivable beach in Frisco... UNLESS, of course, Supt Halleck resolves the current issue of Pole Road no longer being a designated ORV Route in favor of allowing Pole Road to currently remain open "unoficially"... He mentioned the situation briefly at the NCBBA Annual Meeting in Rodanthe a few weeks ago... He has a quandry there... and unless it is resolved, it's possible that the ONLY way to access the ocean beach south or west of that driveable beach in Frisco during the Summer "closures" will be by Shanks Mare, AFTER you find a place to park.

Gonna' make the Fall fishing season interesting....

There are loads of people here, the traffic backed up leaving yesterday (7-6-25) and it was backed up from 10:30am til past 1pm. I have never seen it backup there for that long and it wasn't raining, Traffic during the week was crazy heavy too. Here MP 3 in Kitty Hawk Sunday. Let's see how long it stays backed up.

Not one firework did I hear yesterday, that is unusual.

Now there is a crash on the bridge leaving. That won't help.

I live near High Rock Lake, about a quarter mile as the crow flies. To the east are the fraternal campgrounds on the lake (Shrine, Elks, Mooses, etc.) Every year one or two do a BIG "professional" show. Given the how the holiday fell on a Friday, and going by past years, this year there *should* have been a big show Friday night and last night. Nothing.

And, of course everybody that lives on the lake is partying and they typically get into the fireworks about 6pm and there's constant boomin' and poppin' all around until about midnight. Not this year. I'll guess I heard a few hundred bucks worth of fireworks set off both nights, if that. Pretty much nothing.

Very strange.
