How dare Elon buy a Gulfstream G700. He deserves to have dubs spew gossip about him. This used to be called the politics of envy.

dubs, you don’t really hate Elon, you hate that you ain’t Elon.

Just correcting the misinformation Bentmtn posted. I even said there's nothing wrong with him owning and buying stuff. Try to keep up EZ.

And again with the dubs slur. Laughing smiley

I called you dubs to compliment you. You wrote “I'll take it as a complement though. Thanks!”

OK, I reread Bentmtn’s posts and saw no misinformation. She mentioned the home where he lives and said nothing about his airplanes or yachting vacations. I posted the article from Architectural Digest in support of what she wrote. You spew gossip about his relationship with his daughter, she compliments him on looking out for his family.

Please point out what you consider to be misinformation in her posts.

Thanks, I guess?

Bolded (can you do that here?) the parts that are misinformation. Musk does not give most of his money away and he doesn't "keep it simple". He's also not a "genius certifiably". He was an average to below average student (easy to look up). Both of those have no bases in fact.

Also

"It's nice he provides well for his children and their mamas!"

I pointed out that he didn't with one of them. Saying they are dead to him is a pretty sh*tty thing to say no matter the reason. He's also kept one of his ex wives from visiting one of the children. She complained about it on Twitter, but deleted it after an "agreement" was reached. Muck is many things, but loving family man he is not.

edit: I guess there's no bold tag here?

Trying to guide a child who is wandering off the tracks of sanity is what good fathers should do. If that child chooses to not see the light and criticize his father... welp, not much else can be done. Destiny is chosen, fate follows.

Musk signed off on the surgery himself (he was a minor and Musk had to sign off on it). He only later had a change of heart and disowned the kid. Why in the world are people trying to make him into something he is not? I guess it might make you feel better about supporting him? Crazy. I do think it's funny as hell that people who hated electric cars now want/have a Tesla. Laughing smiley

I am happy to see that posts are not disappearing now. That is a positive.

RE: Rodanthe Erosion Crisis

Maybe Elon will buy Rodanthe and then you can worry about something else off topic? He's very busy right now, but he's a multi-tasker.

Yeah, not sure why Musk was brought up, but misinformation did need to be corrected. Can we get back to you being wrong about hard structures?

RE: Rodanthe Erosion Crisis

To get things back on track- I saw that DOT was removing remaining sandbags from where the S curves were. Thinking out loud, there has been an inlet in that area historically (Loggerhead I think?) It seems possible to me that a cut would open up there. If that happens, that would alter the erosion pressures in Rodanthe proper- perhaps? The discussion about the impact of shoals offshore on erosion was really interesting.

John Bull

Yes, there was an inlet there. I do think another one will open up at some point and that would probably help. It'll probably take the "eye" with it. At least the jug handle is in place now so it doesn't take them by surprise like New Inlet did.

RE: Rodanthe Erosion Crisis

"Can we get back to you being wrong about hard structures?"

You appear to be the one who is wrong. I will believe the scientists who have studied them.

I submit that what you have written consists of an approximately equal mixture of absurd mendacity and nonsense. So let’s take it one claim at a time.

Your claim:

“Musk does not give most of his money away”

Are you familiar with the term “hyperbole”? Well let me tell you about this type of figure of speech. Here is the definition: “exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.” The most common example given is, “I am so hungry. I could eat a horse.” If someone on this list made that statement you would probably be accusing them of posting misinformation.

And it is really a serious accusation to make to someone on a public forum.

OK, so let’s look at the charity of Elon Musk. First and foremost he is the number one person listed on The Giving Pledge, which means that he has pledged that he will give away more than half of his money.

Now let’s look at what he gives now. This is from a reputable publication.

Good grief ez. You just can't drop something, can you? If you want to be impressed that someone gave 1.25% of their worth to (and this is the funny part) their own foundation, go right ahead. You can idolize whoever you want. I'm done talking about Muck.

You appear to be the one who is wrong. I will believe the scientists who have studied them.

johnbt

If you believe the scientist, then you believe it's sand. Those ridges are the proposed borrow spots for the replenishment as referenced in the link I gave. You don't have to believe anyone though. Just go dive the site and you'll see for yourself that it's sand. Not a natural hard structure to be seen.

I could give a rat’s fanny what you say about Elon. My contention is that your accusation that Bent posted misinformation is pure 100%

C'mon people, stay on topic - you wanna talk Elon, create a new thread (and yes, my apologies, I wandered)

The sand columns have long been removed and actually Irene did form an inlet...cutting HI off for 45 days (I think it was) before getting filled in - same for inlet (now dry) spanned by the Ethridge.

An inlet in that area reducing pressure is oft discussed - one view is that reduction of velocity/pressure might cause any southward sand movement to cease/slow down...acting like a groin and less sand flowing from that point south (which would be devastating to already challenged Mirlo Beach). The other, is that the pressure reduction would possibly cause sand to build, because of the lower velocity moving south. After a few more adult beverages the conversation usually goes to our utopic view...that the inlet would open, so much that we could put in there, maybe even do a small marina/dockage. Imagine being able to keep your boat there..easy access to the Atlantic or Pam side....then we typically pass out.

However, if five posters flag your starting post it will be deleted. You can't always blame the moderators when a bickering post goes away.

This thread started as a Rodanthe Erosion Crisis thread - even if you did start it, stay the eff on topic (again, as I failed to do).

Just fact check your self before posting - so much disinformation "on both sides :rolling eyes:" on here - and, quite often, an inability for many to simply read and comprehend the previous posts before jumping in (I get that, it's an internet thing).

Stay fact based, non anecdotal and I suspect it'll fly. Perhaps drop it into the "other politics" section.

And, as SQP, aptly stated, it's a "moderation by your peers" thing....

It was not Irene. It was Isabel in Sept 2003 that opened "Izzies Inlet" near Hatteras Village. Irene was in 2011 and produced strong sound side flooding. I had 3 feet of water in my garage from Irene. (KH Landing)

Not talking the Isabel breach - talking the Irene breach. Can't post pics for some weird reason but google Irene inlet - it formed almost at the Mirlo/Pea Island "boarder"

I wish I only had 3 feet...folks were rippin down 12 on sea sleds

There were multiple breaches with Irene I believe. This link has pretty good pictures.

It is not your drifting off topic that you need to apologize for. That was MikeW and I who drifted off topic. But you might consider apologizing for your condescension.

RE: Rodanthe Erosion Crisis

While not Rodanthe focused, there was an excellent (and for me, very eye opening) discussion on the challenging Buxton situation during yesterdays county meeting. I was a violent disbeliever in hard structures, but now see (w Bret B's help) that hard structures COMBINED with re nourishment can be a very viable solution.

It's now avail on line:

Been there, done that. In my opinion, the insults and name calling during those days is what drove many of the regular users away from this platform. There's even a Facebook page for many of the refugees from OBC and they're not coming back. Anybody that wants to start their own politics forum feel free to do so, but this is a beach message board. As Will stated many times: "There will be no national politics allowed here." I myself use X for any political bickering. Try it, you may like it.

Yep, well versed, save ticktok (consume only), on other platforms (as well as the pretty much dormant expats on faceplant) including "for fee" heavily secured sites (as a few on here might be, but not all, hence an open everyman/woman's option here).

Much like my post college hockey days - very few full check leagues - but for those of us drawn to bloodsports we'd clear it with the refs and then for our shifts it was old skool (as it should be) puck. So yeah, I would expect the requisite amount of name calling, spatting, you got cooties, kinda stuff.

Me, I got zero interest, unless I read some BS comments and I'd go full condescending shred. Lest the coastie on here forgets, Elon has now his finger on his, and the rest of our, bene paks. Gives me warm fuzzies for sure
