McDonald's to a coffee shop

McDonald's to a coffee shop

I was looking through the Kitty Hawk building permits and I see they are going to remodel it to be a coffee shop. Sick smiley

Upfit existing building for use as a coffee shop.
Add 25x25 ground level deck on south side.
Replace/repair roof.

RE: McDonald's to a coffee shop

Going to be a Front Porch Cafe. Better that than another national chain

RE: McDonald's to a coffee shop

Front Porch at MP 6 an all time favorite of mine.

RE: McDonald's to a coffee shop

Front Porch is nice.

RE: McDonald's to a coffee shop

I like Front Porch in Manteo.

RE: McDonald's to a coffee shop

I haven't been to one. Is it kinda like a Starbucks?

Yes, with a more local flare/flavor. There are several along the northern OBX, although if I'm buying coffee away from home, I'd just as soon go to Wawa.

But...cold nasty weather is exactly when you need coffee.....
I get it though no sense having your employees have to slug through the snow though. In total fairness I think 7-11 ( brewed not that instant coffee maker) and Wawa coffee is just fine.

Our office buys the coffee (Folgers) and we have an endless supply of Kcups.

Actually, Alexy, 7-11 coffee is very good and has been rated high against other brands. Always freshly brewed and ready. I've bought it for years and think it's better than Starbucks. I'm glad the coffee shop did not make their employees come in on a snowy day just to dish out coffee.

RE: McDonald's to a coffee shop

I'm a weekly customer at the Front Porch Café in NH in order to ketchup Wink smiley with friends. Since I don't drink coffee I can't comment on their coffee. FPC serves other hot and cold beverages for us non coffee drinkers. Plus they offer fresh pastries and bagels. A large fresh brewed ice tea & a toasted plain bagel with cream cheese sets me back $6.50 plus tip.

FPC also sells FPC branded souvenirs which are pricey IMHO. If they want me to advertise their business then lower the prices for t-shirts and such.

A coffee story: At the fire station, we committed the cardinal sin of running out of coffee (Folgers). I go over to Walmart and get a large can of Great Value coffee, a lot cheaper. The next day you never have heard so much whining, crying, and complaining about the bad coffee. Ok, I'll fix it. I later dumped the Great Value coffee into the empty Folgers can.... nobody knew the difference. Problem solved.

My family owned a diner for 47 years. we served one brand of coffee for 47 years and everyone always complimented the coffee.
The secret......
Clean the coffee makers every week.
White vinegar and let it brew it then flush it out.
The coffee was plain old Maxwell house coffee

RE: McDonald's to a coffee shop

Gotta have a clean coffee maker, Alexy is so right. Vinegar is cheap. Flip the coffee maker upside down and make sure the underside of the drip area is clean too - that's a sneaky area where the oils hang out and get rancid.

Any opinions on making coffee in a percolator?
We use a French press which is great but I’ve been researching percolators and am thinking about getting one.

My mom had a big glass one that plugged in. She could make a pot of coffee right on the sideboard when we had company for supper. It always smelled amazing but I was too young for coffee back then.

RE: McDonald's to a coffee shop

Have not seen a percolator in many moons.

If you want a "drip" coffee maker, IMO you can't beat a Bunn. We're on our second one.

The current nomenclature is the Bunn Speed Brew.

RE: McDonald's to a coffee shop

One of the best cups of coffee I had years ago at a Chock full o’Nuts restaurant in New York City in the early 80's.

At home I still do a pour over with fresh ground beans. Front Porch beans are some of the best.

Thanks for everyone’s input.
I’ve been watching some YouTube videos on percolators and I’m planning to buy one.
I’ll let you know what we think.
Always in search of that perfect cup!

Lolly: I have sold several of them in my Etsy shop that I have randomly picked up at estate sales, church rummage sales, etc. I would recommend checking out some of those venues first for one for a small amount of money and trying it. Most work well and I always test mine before listing for sale. You can find them way under $10.00. Just make sure the coffee ground basket is in there and the electric cord looks okay. Voila!!!! I have attached a pic of one that I sold last year. They are getting popular again for MCM decor and people seem to be grabbing them up. Have fun!

RE: McDonald's to a coffee shop

Hey thanks, Bent!
I can always count on you for great ideas!
I will start the hunt!

That is EXACTLY like the one my mother had.

This surely reminds me of the electric percolator we had at home while growing up in a low-income household. It was no such thing as discarding once-used coffee grounds. Just add more the next day until the basket became full, about 3 or 4 days. Then used the grounds as organic fertilizer for plants. I literally awoke each morning, smelling the coffee brewing and the sound of the old pot chugging away. The little glass thing on the top told you when it was ready

Coffee grounds and eggshells are amazing for your garden. In years past at the restaurant there was a # 10 can that the short order cook would put the shells in as she made orders on the flat grill. When we were able to ( not slammed busy) They would go into a trash bag along with the coffee grounds and a lady would come by at closings on sat and sunday and took them to her greenhouse. We got paid back with some amazing better boy tomatoes that she would grow all year long in the greenhouse.
