RE: Early autumn

I saw the Weather Channels hurricane expert Dr. Richard Knabb predicting the Atlantic hurricane season getting more active in September. Maybe cooler weather will knock some of the punch out of our 2024 hurricanes. Pray USA Flag

RE: Early autumn

The 8 a.m. ferry to Hatteras wasn't even half full. The 3 p.m. ferry to Ocracoke was about the same. The side with the single lane was totally empty. Summer must be over.

RE: Early autumn

It’s 66 degrees here in south Jersey.
Ugh!!
I hate it!

RE: Early autumn

79*F on Ocracoke with a predicted high of 81. Wednesday's high is a bone chilling 77. smiley

RE: Early autumn

My favorite season. Wood smoke, crisp air, clear skies and hot cider.

I went to Coquina Beach on the 4th of July. Got there about 9:00 am like usual since it's my favorite beach especially in off season. I'd never gone during the 4th so I was curious. There were about 20 families when I arrived and by 10:00 there were at least 100 families and the parking lot was full and along both sides of the road. I left Laughing smiley Today I went back, got there at 9 ish. 5 cars in the parking lot and when I left at 1:00 there were about 20 cars. It was heaven LOL.

Driving back up the beach road a lot of the beach access lots were only half full or only a few cars. I think it'll pick up again for Labor Day but the summer rush is done, so it seems. Clapping smiley

RE: Early autumn

Kids going back to school is probably the reason for fewer people being there.

RE: Early autumn

Its the BEST season. Heading to Duck last week of Sept. Just printed off my beach list and will start accumulating all the necessities. Hubs will return in Oct for the Red Drum tournament.

RE: Early autumn

Living in a beach town myself, this is my favorite day of the year.

People head home and the locals get to savor the wonders of the beach.

RE: Early autumn

The effort put into the vegetable garden is paying off now. Two full grocery bags everyday. More work lies ahead to preserve it all.

RE: Early autumn

I thought I wanted early autumn after sweating last week but I'm freezing at 50 degrees at night,

RE: Early autumn

Also I like apples but HATE Cider

RE: Early autumn

Jfalba, a little shot of fireball in the cider is like drinking a slice of apple pie. I get acclimated to the cooler weather by spending a lot of time outside. I just got about 3/4's of a cord of wood dumped in the driveway that needs to be split so I'm glad it's 65 here this evening.

RE: Early autumn

You work sooo hard!! Wow! I'm sure Mrs. G is so happy that you are a great provider!

I have never tried fireball. Does it taste like licorice? I do love apple cider though. I may have to try it by the solo here and I am loving this fallish weather.

RE: Early autumn

Fireball is cinnamon whiskey, Bent.

Outside work is like free gym time, no membership fee Big grin

I'll have to try it!

Yep...people try and park so close to the grocery store to cut down the walk whereas I would rather walk further and save my car doors at the same time. Just more steps helps. My beer fridge is in our basement so I have always touted that as extra steps, but I haven't had a beer in a month. Haha! Need to get back to the beach as only beach waves draw out my beer thirst.

I am working on a cardboard botabox...but it's taking forever to finish it. I like a glass of wine while cooking, but it's probably expired by now.

But...I will try the fireball. I do so love the bourbon cream drink. So milk Shakey!

RE: Early autumn

If the below average temps continue, it could be a colder winter. I think we're overdue for more snow as well. Stock up on fireball AND soup fixins!

RE: Early autumn

If the weather is cooling down, it must mean it's time for week 2 for the year. My favorite due to the comfortable temps and reduced people around. Can't wait!

I'll have to try it!

Famous last words smiley But def not in the same camp as Everyclear and grape juice

But seriously, very very good cold weather sipping.

So true, OB! I was always afraid of what was called purple passion made of something like turpentine in college and it was stewed in someone's bathtub. I was against it on two counts....mainly the tub thing. Germ-a-phob thing not to mention I may go blind! Hahaha!

But truly, I may try and take a sip of fireball, but I hate cinnamon candy. So who knows!

RE: Early autumn

Our farmer neighbor cut his field the other night and walking outside with 55 degree weather and the smell of hay sure did remind me of fall.

Sis and I have been sitting in the back yard today chatting and the farmer is doing his square bales today. It's 70 degrees on the mountain right now and not a cloud in the sky. Loving this cooler weather!!!!

Get an airplane bottle. That way you're not heavily invested. Thumbs up

Don't care for the stuff myself. But the crowd I hang with when I'm in the mountains sure thinks it's all that and more. And Jagermeister too. Blechh!!

Whatever happened to passing around the jar of shine?
