RE: THE WALL THAT HEALS | NOVEMBER 16-19

A bunch of us local riders are going to meet and ride out to Columbia to help with the escort. They are saying we might have 400 bikes! If that's true it will be huge! We leave Columbia at 1:45 so that puts us back in Manteo around 2:30ish? We'll see if those numbers are hype or not.

The Wall in DC is the most powerful monument (at least for me) that I have ever experienced.

We hear a number like 58,000 dead, but until you see every name on the wall, you have no real sense of how many people that actually is.

Thanks for posting about this, NCSU Dad. And KH Biker, look forward to seeing y'all ride by. My wife and I plan on being along the route with US Flags in hand, and also attending the opening ceremony on Thursday. I will say, Dare County has done a great job preparing for this and working with the towns along the way.

...if you do visit the wall...please pause a moment and remember the 100,000+ viet vets who took their own lives after serving in that hell hole... Broken heart USA Flag ...

A very dear friend of ours lost her husband when his plane was shot down only a short time before he was scheduled to return to the States. His remains were never recovered. She held onto hope for a long time.
She was a young wife with 2 little boys. She still mourns his loss all these years later.
She lives on the Banks and is a volunteer with this event . She is 85 years old.
May God bless her and all those who mourn their loved ones.

My Legion Post (outside Philly) hosted it several years back. Even in its scaled down size it is still very powerful, especially when you go to visit it at night. It was open 24 hours (with no lack of volunteers to stand guard throughout the night).

I was on my way to Greenville Tuesday and had the privilege of seeing the wall on its journey outside of Manteo. It was such an awe-inspiring moment to see the many many many motorcycles before and after the monument transport and then lots of jeeps. So many people lining the roads to pay their respects. Truly a moment I will remember of so many people coming together.

I drove past the event site yesterday and there were a lot of people there.

I attended the opening ceremony on Thursday. Very well done, kudos to the Dare County Veterans Advisory Council. It was a solemn but enjoyable ceremony. As the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem were underway, a Coast Guard plane (C-130 maybe?) did a flyover from the mainland right over us. Very cool.

I went to the display the other day. Very nice. It was an informative and moving display. The replica of the Memorial was very moving and tranquil. This is a great display. I would recommend visiting if you are able.
