Goombays Grille & Raw Bar, Kill Devil Hills, Sold

Here's one more restaurant to be added to the list of restaurants that have changed ownership on OBX. Good news is the new owners are locals.

"On Friday, March 17th, One Fish Two Fish Inc passed the Goombays mantle to KDH Punk LLC. We, Charlie and Karen, are so blessed to pass the Goombays legacy to Tony Sipe– one of our loyal employees of 15 years-and Chris Miller-a friend and long time Outer Banks restauranteur. Tony and Chris are passionate, capable, and enthusiastic professionals, and we are comforted and thrilled to know the legacy will live on in good hands."

Thank you for putting me on the scent. I gave up going there when they substituted chicken for fish in a fish taco and didn't tell us they made the substitution. I will definitely give them a try again.

We ate there once. Once.

I'll defer to Pickle for his expertise on the best bait to catch chicken fish. Here's a picture of one Beach Farmer caught in 2006.

I don’t remember when the building was not there. My earliest memories of the place was when it was Perry’s Drive In. I think I was about 10 years old at the time. It was one of those places where the waitresses rollerskated out to your car and put a tray on the drivers window.

Later it became a scuba shop because of the shallow water wrecks directly across the street.

Later it became the Whaling Station, which was a very good little restaurant with good seafood.

Ez, my neighbor is Jim Bunch, who wrote a book about his dives and research on U Boats off of the coast. He tells about his experiences in that dive shop here.

We ate there once a few years back and then got take out from them in 2022. They went out of their way to help us out on a very busy night in 2022 and the food was excellent. Glad to hear it's staying open and it's an employee buying it. I doubt we will be down this year but you never know. If we do, I'm sure we'll check it out. Thanks for the info!
