High Speed Chase??

High Speed Chase??

Was there a high speed chase and crash today in Avon? I can't find anything about it on the net but a FB friend told my wife there was a bad wreck in Avon.

It always amuses me to read these reports or see one for yourself. From Hatteras you have 2 ways out. Both bridges are manned with spike strips in minutes via radio. Look at the ends of the bridge for a large gray metal box = it holds spike strips to use.

Not that FB is a "reliable" source - but lots of chatter within Avon Calling:

Why on Earth would you chase a speeding vehicle in a crowded area when he was headed to a dead end? Sounds like the DCSO wasn't too bright and ended up hurting some bystanders.

Why? Because Barney and Goober could. That's why.

That's your take on this whole situation? To blame the deputy trying to do his job and protect the public from the reckless and careless disregarding of safety by the offender? Wow, just wow. Thumbs down

Thanks for that. Doesn't sound like anyone was hurt too bad, thankfully. I don't know how you could drive 100 mph through there, traffic is usualy pretty heavy.

I love our guests, but some PA turon with this view? not so much. Full disclosure, I've met (and worked with) some of the coolest folks from PA.

I disagree. And it should be okay to disagree. The reason this forum is dying is because of the intolerance by a few of the diverse opinions on every subject from Hot Tubs to Pork roll sandwiches. We don't need to censure all disagreement. Let it happen, even if it trends toward borderline civility. Why do some want to tamp down any opinion that is different from their own? I want to know the opinion of others, even more so if different than my own. The key is to show respect for someone's differing opinion. Light bulb

Outer Banks Voice had this statement in the referenced article. Glad to hear this.

"Those requiring medical care have been released from the Outer Banks Hospital."

You think this board is dying? The only thing I saw that died was the continual back and forth between a few posters espousing their political views. That was shown to be verboten, and those posters have either towed the line, or been banned. (Some may have left because what they seek is political discourse.) If that's what some are looking for I suggest they find a new site to brow beat their opponents.

That's good news. This could have been so much worse.

Yeah....I do. A slow death. While I agree the back and forth petty arguing became predictable and boring - too many folks have quit participating because they were confronted with views opposite their own. And that is sad.

This turon from PA has been in the fire service for over 35 years. Has driven to thousands of emergency calls. Teaches first responders the safe operation of emergency vehicles on the state level.

Full disclosure. My son in law is a veteran police officer in the City of Philadelphia. He also teaches the safe operation of emergency vehicles to rookie police officers.

The most important rule taught is not to endanger the public as this or these officers did. Ever.

Is it the fact they were confronted with opposite views or the fact that personal attacks became the flavor of the day and folks simply replied with personal attacks as opposed to civil conversations that backed their rhetoric? Feels more like the latter, as much of society in general feels. I fully agree that we as a society should embrace differing opinions with civil conversations. I also fully agree that those that are not mature enough to play by those rules should take their toys and go play elsewhere, either voluntarily or otherwise.

Well since Philadelphia PD has a no pursuit policy and he teaches a no pursuit policy it would be a somewhat self fulfilling prophecy that he would not agree with a pursuit.
That said if the Dare CO SO did not try and stop him and he continued into Avon where he hit someone they would of been berated for that as well with "Why didn't you do your job?"
The entity who should be held fully responsible is the clown who decided to drive that way to begin with not the police.

Maybe it has something to do with the scumbag driving down the street threatening the public in the first place. We know how they handle crime in Philly. This aint Philly.

Yep, I know you were (fire service). All the more reason you should know better NOT to play the Barney Fife card and make assumptions/statements not knowing the full story. Even more so with a kid (as do I) in Blue.

IMHO if you are driving thru AVON like a bat out of hell evading police they have every right to blow your melon right off your shoulders.

Disagreement has nothing at all to do with why we can't have nice things here anymore. Nor does opinions.

Nor, for that matter, is either new here.

But that was an excellent job of exemplifying the actual reason why.
