100 dollar boat project...Update 3/18/23

RE: 100 dollar boat project...

Cut out the bases drilled air holes and put a couple coats of some outdoor rustoleum paint I had lying around for some extra protection

RE: 100 dollar boat project...

Good thing this "watermelon" color wont show once they are mounted ..hehe I made sure the edges were rounded so that over time they wouldn't cut through the vinyl. I'll probably give em one more coat of paint once these dry.

RE: 100 dollar boat project...

Cut the foam with a bread knife and used contact adhesive to attach it to the base.

RE: 100 dollar boat project...

I wrapped the first one and its just ok. I think this is a two man job, one to pull it tight and another to hit it with a hair dryer and staple it in .. I was reading that after sitting on them for a while and after they heat up a few times from the sun that most of the pleats smooth out. Anyway, next post will be of all the seats done and installed back in the boat.

RE: 100 dollar boat project...Update 12/7/22

Soooo, I'm back on the old Reinell Tri-hull project and as expected it is a can of worms. Not a surprise. I need to get to the transom and bilge that are both inaccessible because of the splash guard. I want to do a bit more to reinforce the transom and I need to install a bilge pump. First step is cutting that splash guard off so I can get down in there with some 3/4 marine grade plywood and do some glass work.

RE: 100 dollar boat project...Update 12/7/22

The guard is off so I can see better what I'm dealing with. The sending unit looks a little suspect and I'm gonna have to break out the bore scope and have a look inside that old tank too.

RE: 100 dollar boat project...Update 12/7/22

We will have to glass the splash guard back in later.

RE: 100 dollar boat project...Update 12/7/22

Now to custom fit and glass a piece of 3/4 Marine grade up under the top lip of the motor mount . The lower mounts are secured by a 1/2 inch aircraft grade aluminum plate already.

Old #art

Thanks Oldy, I try to rotate my various projects so I don't get bored! haha Who knows if I'll live long enough to see them all through!

RE: 100 dollar boat project...Update 12/7/22

Got the borescope down in the tank and it's not terrible but there's some junk down there that needs to come out. The only thing that concerns me is that the tank is bone dry. It's been sitting for many years. Here's to hoping that there are no leaks.

Can you plug the lines and pump some air in there? I can send you a water line pressure gauge that our plumbers use to test their lines for close in inspection.

Oh, thanks Squid...I got it up on an angle so if anything leaks it will show up in the dry bilge so I should be ok. I'm gonna try to get a pressure washer tip down in there through the sending unit hole. Getting THAT rusty thing out is gonna be fun. haha

RE: 100 dollar boat project...Update 12/7/22

Lol. It looks like you'll be needing a new gasket for that sender unit plate...

Apparently you don't understand the speed and agility potential that this sleek, scientifically formulated design represents. A Turtle?? Please woman....

Another craft of the Turtle fleet! Big grin

RE: 100 dollar boat project...Update 12/7/22

Now that the sailboat is in the water it's time to turn my attention back to my 100 dollar boat! Since the extended garage port is finished I can bring her out of the weather which is kinda nasty today.

RE: 100 dollar boat project...Update 3/18/23

Installed new remote work lights overhead for when I can't sleep and feel like tinkering.

RE: 100 dollar boat project...Update 3/18/23

...and the shop is in good order after a little clean-up.

In keeping with the Irate Pirate theme, you need armaments to protect your fleet on the ICW. May I suggest you aquire a cannon?
