Update on the current midge situation in Corolla?

Arriving in Corolla tomorrow.

The midges were pretty numerous this past May.

How bad is it now?

I was there in May and September. May was bad. September had fewer bugs than normal.

May be lots of spider webs on the house unless it has been cleaned. Midges brought the spiders out in force this summer. Probably lots of fat spiders around.

we've been in corolla for 2 weeks. No swarms - only saw all the dead remnants of earlier swarms (spent a day cleaning that up - the spiders are flourishing though). i think its past season for them maybe???, or maybe due to it having been relatively dry here lately.

Winds were east until a couple days ago so the east winds blow them back but even with the winds shifting west I have yet to see many/any bugs in Kitty Hawk and nearby. It is also in the low 70's to 60's which is not their favorite temps. Standard warnings are still in play - don't leave outside lights on overnight and leave windows closed for those without screens and even with them if you want to be totally free of them little buggers.

I turned on the top deck lights a while before I went outside for a cigar in May. Bad decision. Theeth smiley
