Blackened Jumbo Sea Scallops with Fresh Pineapple Salsa

J4yDubs
That looks really good. Scallops are my favorite seafood. Well maybe crab legs first but scallops are a close second.

Thursday 9/9

This will be a quick report. We lounged around until noon and then went out shopping. After shopping, we stopped at Risky Business and got some Dolphin fish (Mahi). Not sure how we're going to cook it yet (probably just pan seared), but we'll figure that out. After we got the fish we went over to Kat's again for lunch. While waiting for lunch my wife shopped at Family Jewels and of course came out with a bag. I don't think it's possible for her to go in there without coming out with something. It's not even that big a store! She must have one of everything by now! Laughing smiley

After lunch, which was good again, we went for a walk on the beach. The surf has been rough all day, so no swimming or fishing. Shelling is still bad. I did find a few sharks teeth, but it took some effort. Saw some kite boarders, but most of them didn't make it down the beach. I think it was too rough. It started raining, so we went back inside. As I was writing this the sun came out briefly and we got to see a really bright rainbow.

Time to get dinner ready and watch some football.

Probably too late, but a good one for mahi......grill with just salt/pepper, and make a sauce on the side of kiwi and curry. Start with 3 kiwi, peeled and pureed, then start adding curry by the teaspoon until you get the right spice for you. Spoon the sauce over the Mahi when done. Seems strange, but tastes great.

I've been going to the Outer Banks since the mid 60's and have never found a shark's tooth. I've found hundreds of them in Kure Beach and Top Sail, but never north of them. Post a picture of the teeth for us J. Great reports by the way.

They are everywhere on the southern beaches and Myrtle Beach. Most are black.

I know it's not the OBX, but interesting facebook post my brother sent me. This boy found a huge shark's tooth at Ocean Isle Beach this week. I found a nice-sized white one (not as big as the attached!) at North Myrtle Beach about 20 years ago and made a necklace with it for my son. I have looked for shark's teeth at the OBX, but have never found them.

Friday 9/10

Last day. Probably our laziest day yet. We were on the beach most of the morning and some of the afternoon. We did go for a drive, bought a bird house, gassed up and got some ice cream from Happy Belly. We also went to Oden's Dock because i wanted to get some pelican pics. We'll probably just do some hotdogs and chips for dinner and finish up the beer.

Check out is at 8am! Seems early, but we're usually out before then usually anyways. 8-9 hour drive back, with a stop at Bojangles. Laughing smiley

RE: J4yDubs 2021 Hatteras Village Trip Report

Surf was still big today. Tide pool this morning.

See you on the road.....Will be leaving Nags Head at 5am. I've learned the earlier the better. Last year we had no traffic issues. If we are lucky will be home by Noon

Love the tide pools in Hatteras off ramp 55 as does my dog. Have a safe trip and thank you for all of the neat pics and narratives! Sounds like you guys had a wonderful week!! (My sis found a shark tooth in Avon 15 years ago...but she's the shark tooth guru with cups full of them...just like my grandma ) I was jealous!

RE: J4yDubs 2021 Hatteras Village Trip Report

I love the pelis! Happy trails on your return trip.

John
We left Nags Head and made it home to Wyndmoor in 6:45 minutes. Second fastest time, the only traffic we hit was on the Blue Route

RE: J4yDubs 2021 Hatteras Village Trip Report

We made it in 8 hours flat from Hatteras Village. Decent time. We left around 6:45am. Traffic was fine until 95 and the Blue Route. Stopped for lunch and at a rest stop. Had one scary moment on the blue route where the trucks in front of me locked their brakes, smoking their tires to stop. There was a left shoulder so I jumped into it while braking. The car behind me slid right beside me, also smoking his tires. I didn't see any reason for the stopped cars in the left lane of the blue route. Nobody crashed, so that's a good thing.

Coby (dog) went crazy when he saw us, the kids, not so much. Laughing smiley

Saturday 9/11 - Never Forget

I already posted about the drive home, so not much more to update on. We stopped at Orange Blossom on our way out and said hi to Shell Hunter and got some Uglies and donuts. I don't normally have the beard (I don't shave on vacation), so I'm betting no one is going to know who I am if we meet again. Earlier in the week Robin sent our kids a picture of us (selfie) and my son wrote back, why is Santa on the beach? Grrr. I'm not completely gray yet, but getting there.

I have a few more pictures to upload, but we're still getting settled in. Here's a couple I have ready.

Full view from the condo balcony.

RE: J4yDubs 2021 Hatteras Village Trip Report

Sunset from the front balcony of Durant. Would be perfect if the power line were not there, but it was still great. A lot of color in the clouds.

RE: J4yDubs 2021 Hatteras Village Trip Report

Thanks for all the great pictures.
