Bald Eagle

Bald Eagle

I was out on my kayak near Festival Island/Manteo this morning. In the distance I saw a large bird, that did not appear to be an Osprey in the top of a dead tree. When I got closer it took flight and went right over me. I've seen them in Alaska at once in awhile in the Raleigh area, but not before in the OBX.

Any other sightings?

Apparently found all over NC - Click to follow link...

We have them in increasing abundance in Maryland now as well. I see them flying over my house and sitting in trees in northern Maryland - we're only a few miles from a reservoir. Very cool to see them.

I’ve never seen one at the beach, but they are common around Wake county. Go for a day on Jordan, Falls, or Harris lakes and you’ll see all you care to.

RE: Bald Eagle

We have seen them in Jarvisburg while sitting outside at Weeping Radish

I have seen a couple in the Kitty Hawk bay area in my kayak before. While not super common here they are not uncommon.

They're getting so common that Audubon is advising that we bring back DDT because the Eagles are killing too many Plover Chicks...

(Just kidding, but nothing would surprise me any more.)

RE: Bald Eagle

Supposedly, there is a nesting pair in the Kitty Hawk Woods area. I’ve seen a large male numerous times flying low and slow going south above Jean Guite Creek.

One of our camera ops shot footage of a bald eagle over Oriole Park back in 2019.

We have pictures of a bald eagle in our pasture who had killed one of our lambs and was eating it :(
We live in South Jersey.

I used to admire these majestic birds.....until I about broke my ankle jumping off my side porch to save one of my ducks who got attacked Lol.. Luckily...the duck survived with a bunch of missing feathers and several puncture wounds from the eagles talons. People definitely shouldn't underestimate these birds. A lamb is one thing...but they've been known to kill calves also.

I didn't think squirrels could scream until I saw one ripped out of a pine tree by an eagle Lol

I was sitting on my oceanfront balcony in Kill Devil Hills last September just aimlessly staring out over the water when I noticed a big bird circling around over the ocean. I went in to get the binoculars and sure enough...bald eagle. I was thrilled. Never saw it again that trip. Looked again during my trip down in the beginning of July, but it would have been difficult to spot much of anything through the rain.

RE: Bald Eagle

On a power pole on Pea Island. One of several sightings in that area.

RE: Bald Eagle

Always is a thrill to see them! Repair used to nest on a side road in Kitty Hawk but has not been there for several years now. And RayMatthews and I have seen one on the beach or flying over the ocean — More than once now, shortly after you get onto the 4 Wheel Dr. beach in Carova.

More recently, I photographed a nesting pair with its young in Corolla, but that nest is not active this year either. I miss Eagle families.
