Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

Just a quick public service message. Please don’t park on the high spot at the rental it’s a septic drain field that is easily ruined by vehicles crushing the drain pipes in the sand down here.

I'll get a picture of the house down the street with the truck on the septic tank. You have to drive around the ropes and fencing to get on it. Sad smiley

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

A rail or rope fence would be in order. Most people from up north don't even know what a septic system is.

LOL, yea right.....blame the people from the north. Outside of most big cites everyone is on a septic system. Most of my friends who live within 20-30 minutes of me are

Plenty of septic systems up north..

Is that the car port in the photo

It is easier to see from above. They are on the tank marked with red X

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

Wow, apparently they don't have or understand the concept of a driveway from where that person came from. Seriously... Who would do that?

Someone with no class or respect for someone's property....and people who insist on each person staying at the house driving their own car. God forbid they have to let people out once in a while.

It is done two-three times every summer. There should be a sign in the house about it. I was told the pool guy reported it too but they didn't move it until the office called them. Some just assume it is in the rear of the house, but it's not on this one and the one next door (owned by an OBC member).

Sandrider is just another troll. I don't know why anyone ecourages him. Just flag and ignore unless you wnat this place filled with them.

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

The difference is, "up north" the septic is usually deeper under soil, especially the drain lines/field, and driving over it "usually" is not an issue. Down here, they are shallow under the sand, spread out quite a bit and easily damaged.

And, let's take it easy on the troll sleuthing. You gave as good as you got in an exchange with the poster Cavalier, should we label you a troll as well? I don't think you are.
We just came off a large-scale, long flagging war, try to live and let live.

Two or three more bollards and some rope might be more feasible. People tend to ignore signs that prohibit them from doing what they want.

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

Another method is the "graveyard approach" basically fence around the area so that it actually looks like a fenced off gravesite. , then the only "abuse" is when guests use it as a dog pen.

I don't think (unless it's marked/documented in the cottage so plainly visible) folks are purposely and maliciously parking/driving on the spot. Folks are stressed, in a new place, they are on vacation, AND (the biggest influence, I believe) are at the beach....it's not as much entitlement as it is just being oblivious. I have seen some of the most egregious levels of dumbschitedness behavior, walked up the person fully prepared for a wrath of BS only to find them to be absolutely the nicest folks ever - they just didn't know and weren't paying attention.

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

Funniest thing I saw, I think it was in Nags Head, somebody had a replica anti-ship mine with a No Parking sign on it.

Maybe a string of barb wire and one of these would help, and show that same sense of humor. You could explain it with a note in the house. Things like this get people to be curious about why.

Shows more the ignorance of the original poster.

Septic is everywhere not a north of south thing

I would agree with you OB in most instances. However when our house was being built, our neighbor witnessed another neighbor who purposely drove a lap around the house and over our drain field where he then backed up onto the field in an attempt to inflict additional damage. Fortunately the drain field was deep enough that no damage resulted.

Thankfully for an old timer, we were informed that this neighbor's well was actually on our lot (back in the day some wells were installed closer to the dune to get better water quality). A few swipes from a back hoe located that well and took it out of commission. Ironically his joy ride cost him some $$$ to install a new well on his own lot. That neighbor never did speak to us, and then eventually he sold and moved. It all worked out in the end.

When I see vehicles parked on septic systems, I attempt to let them know. And as OB stated, most are unaware of what they have done.

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

I'm from up north, have a septic system AND never park off the driveway, and I think the best solution is a note in the cottage. I rarely drive up to my rental after a 9 hour drive and think to myself, OK, now where's the septic? A word to the wise is usually (not always) sufficient.

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

I only thought of the septic once while in Duck, the time the first floor tub had human waste backing up into it. That being said, I would never park in someone's yard without permission from the owner. Septic or not, park in the driveway.

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

I do apologize, when I said up north I was thinking more of people from big cities.

A lot of septic systems in upstate rural New York drain right from the septic tank into a local stream or creek. It's supposed to be treated with chlorine before discharge, but homeowners never keep up with it. These types of systems have no drain field and are prohibited in new construction now.

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

Place birdbath, or other ornamental elements in the yard over the septic area. Don't leave room for a vehicle.

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

I would think it's rude, even though people from here would not know about wrecking septic. Can you plant flowers on top of it, so it is obvious that you do not drive there? Or place a moveable bird bath or garden flag?

RE: Don’t park on septic drain fields at the rental.

I'm not really sure why its not common knowledge to not park on septic leech fields. I've had to tell plenty of people to move and they questioned me why? Why? get the **** off a septic field. If you have never known a septic field due to city sewers, but someone responsible for maintenance asks you to move yoru vehicle due to septic issues, due not ****ing question, just ****ing movie your vehicle.
