Survey: Your check-in experience for 2021 trips

RE: Survey: Your check-in experience for 2021 trips

1) What was your check-in day (Sat/Sun/etc)? Saturday... we stayed at Tar Heel Wed-Fri night (to avoid bridge traffic and take advantage of 3 "extra days".

2) Who did you rent from (agency name/vrbo/etc)? Joe Lamb.

3) What time was your house ready and/or what time did you check in? Check-in at 4, opted into early notification, got a text at 2pm.

4) Anything specific contributing to your check-in time (accident on the way in/paid for early check in/etc)? Opt-in for early check-in, if available.

5) On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the cleanliness of your rental (1 being gross/10 being amazingly clean)? 10

6) Anything else of interest regarding your check-in experience? So this was where it got weird... we get to the house at 2pm and Terminix was just leaving (scheduled maintenance... we have seen NO bugs since arriving). We dumped everything we brought with us, made the beds, etc. I went to the grocery store and left My Better Half and our son at the house to unpack, etc. When I got back from the grocery store about 4, there was a vehicle in the driveway. Two people got out and said "Sorry to tell you this, but your rental is not ready yet." Hmmm... sure seemed ready to me. I explained to them that we got notification of it being ready and we were already inside. They tried calling their peeps to figure out what was going on, and eventually just asked me if everything was okay cleanliness-wise in the house. I said yes and they went on their way. Strangest "check in" we've had in the 25 years we've been coming to the OBX. Of course, this has been the strangest visit ever, by far... with the 2-alarm fire 1/10th of a mile north of us the next morning, a motorcycle hitting a pedestrian not far from where we were staying at the Tar Heel, and me catching someone trying to break into cars at a public beach entrance during the motel/rental transition on Saturday... yeah... it's been like that.

RE: Survey: Your check-in experience for 2021 trips

1) What was your check-in day (Sat/Sun/etc)? Saturday 6/26
2) Who did you rent from (agency name/vrbo/etc)? Carolina Designs
3) What time was your house ready and/or what time did you check in? Got the text at 1:30 that we could check in early but unfortunately we were still traveling- didn’t make it in until 5:30.
4) Anything specific contributing to your check-in time (accident on the way in/paid for early check in/etc)? Traffic slowed us a down a bit. An ideal day would’ve gotten us here around 3.
5) On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the cleanliness of your rental (1 being gross/10 being amazingly clean)? 7/8. Little things, nothing major. Probably more cosmetic things than anything.
6) Anything else of interest regarding your check-in experience? Was a little disappointed we didn’t get a starter pack of coffee. I thought we did in the past but I should’ve brought some from home just in case. Made a late night shopping trip and got some. Other than that all good.

How has everyone's check in experience been the past couple weeks? I go the end of August and I am interested to see how it is going this year. Thanks RAHohio for starting this thread.

The PM companies and house cleaners/inspectors are doing yeoman's work under the difficult circumstances of high occupancy and staffing shortages. I am pleased that this thread has not devolved into a complaint-fest and has included mostly good news. USA Flag

Every local we spoke to during our visit in June said that the OBX was experiencing July volume in June. I can only imagine how busy they are now. We overheard the manager of one restaurant in Corolla say that all his employees were living at his house (because of the heavy traffic??). They also had a sign warning customers that they were short on staff but we still got seated quickly and had excellent service there.

Not sure lack of TP should be noted since most agencies don't provide a starter roll. In 3 decades of renting, only 1 agency we've used provides it.

Our office - Joe Lamb - provides a free check-in bag and it contains a roll of TP (which was hard to find last year). We have given that out in the check-in bag for years. Once a renter opened the bag and handed the roll of TP back to me saying they won't need that. I asked them , "What do you use"? She said they brought all they needed.

I miss check in bags!! I don't think any of the Hatteras companies are doing them now. I loved getting a reusable bag and a couple goodies when checking in. I guess the keyless entry ended that extra.

I have a Joe Lamb check in bag that came in the form of a soft side cooler. Came full of stuff , maybe 12 years ago. I still have it , best lunch box ever.

RE: Survey: Your check-in experience for 2021 trips

1) What was your check-in day (Sat/Sun/etc)? Saturday
2) Who did you rent from (agency name/vrbo/etc)? Outer Beaches, Hatteras Village
3) What time was your house ready and/or what time did you check in? 5:15
4) Anything specific contributing to your check-in time (accident on the way in/paid for early check in/etc)? Easy drive in, 64E to 12S. Only slow down was in Rodanthe
5) On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the cleanliness of your rental (1 being gross/10 being amazingly clean)? 1-2 bathroom/ kitchen floors not cleaned - gum , hair, toenail clippings on bathroom floor, carpets not all vacuumed. Mattress pad in one bedroom had hair/stains on it. Very disappointing.
6) Anything else of interest regarding your check-in experience? I called the company to report the condition of home first thing Monday. Daughter and I spent an hour going over the house Sat night- even bought a new mop to do so! They offered to have a cleaning crew come that day. Unfortunately a supervisor never checked the house before we were given the entry code. That may have helped things.

RE: Survey: Your check-in experience for 2021 trips

We got here yesterday (Sunday). Took our time and was planning on getting here around 5. Got a text the house was ready at 1. Figures but no big deal. Got here around 4. Could’ve been here at 1 but didn’t want to be stuck waiting for the house to be ready.

We are renting through sun. House was clean and traffic wasn’t bad at all. I know sundays aren’t as bad as Saturday but was really surprised by how little traffic there was. Not that there was none but it seemed similar to the may or September traffic we usually see (this is our first time here peak season).

RE: Survey: Your check-in experience for 2021 trips

Starting this to monitor how check-in is going for trips in 2021.

2) Who did you rent from (agency name/vrbo/etc)? Midgett
3) What time was your house ready and/or what time did you check in? Check in was 6PM; house was ready at 1:30 but we were still driving based on the 6PM estimate. Figures, lol!
4) Anything specific contributing to your check-in time (accident on the way in/paid for early check in/etc)? Guess they got the house done early.
5) On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the cleanliness of your rental (1 being gross/10 being amazingly clean)? 10
6) Anything else of interest regarding your check-in experience? Very smooth - house was incredibly well appointed. Very pleased!
