An update to our dilemma...First, please know my husband and I signed the lease for the house, Pure Salt in Southern Shores last January 8, 2020, long before Covid-19 became a well-known phrase and health risk, Following a second phone call to Twiddy yesterday and getting no where, and yes, I understand they are the property managers and are looking at their own financial bottom line, I reached out to the owners through their FB page Pure Salt OBX - which I have been following since renting the house last January. I explained the brand new travel mandates issued in the state of Pennsylvania and by my employer just this past week. We would have been happy allow Twiddy to keep the payments on the house and simply apply the money towards a week next year (2021), however, the owners of the house want to take our week for their family and they requested Twiddy begin the refund process for us. They are happy to have their home for both Christmas and New Year's week and we are happy that we did not spend money on a house we were no longer going to be able to travel to and would sit empty for New Years week. A shout out to the homeowners for their graciousness and willingness to help us out! Twiddy did call yesterday afternoon to confirm the arrangements I made with the homeowner.
We are currently trying to work with Twiddy right now with regards to our week of vacation between Christmas and New Years. There are really no options available to us other than to cancel our reservation, now six weeks away. If Twiddy is able to rent the house out, they would then go ahead and issue us a refund less a $100 fee or a larger amount if they rent the house for less than the regular fee. My struggle is the state of Pennsylvania (our home state) and my employer just this week instituted a mandatory Covid-Test and/or a 2 week quarantine if residents leave the state. Neither my husband, nor I can afford to take another 2 weeks off work (unpaid) following our week's vacation. I am teacher and the teachers and the staff received the following information just this week from our superintendent after Dr. Levine's, Secretary of Health order:
• "If you are vacationing or traveling for personal reasons and get caught waiting on a COVID test or have to quarantine, sick
days cannot be applied."
Tough decisions to be made all around. Neither one of us wants to lose our jobs over a one week vacation, however, losing thousands of dollars is a bitter pill to swallow.
