Thoughts on a March 2021 vacation

Hi. Our vacation in March 2020 got canceled due to Covid. Thankfully we got a refund from Twiddy. We are thinking about trying again in March 2021, but there is a part of me that is hesitant. I'm afraid that there will be lockdowns again and we won't be able to go. I would hope if that happened again, Twiddy would refund us again, but maybe their policy has changed. Just wondering what everyones thoughts are?
Thank you.

We are booked with Twiddy in April. I don't think that they'll shut down the bridge again, since it turned into such a cluster last time. I AM concerned that there will be travel restrictions at our home state level. So much is unknown right now. Houses are booking up much earlier than they have in the past, so we felt like we had to pull the trigger ASAP if we wanted a chance to go at all.

I have my may and September trips booked for 2021 already because they are booking so quickly now.

If you’re comfortable traveling then go for it! I took 3 trips in 2020 and loved them all!!! Keep your mindset flexible and have backup plans to your plans in case something is closed or has restrictions.

We have 4wd vehicles and drove out on the beach each time) we did this before social distancing became a term) so our routine didn’t vary much!

Do it!!!!!!! Best of luck!!!

I am very comfortable traveling. I just wonder if there will be travel restrictions also. I guess I take a chance either way.

We had to miss last year also we booked a place for Christmas week with Joe Lamb and then our usual 2 weeks in August with Midgett in Avon. I was worried our usual place in August would be booked since everything is booking earlier. We are beyond excited for both trips last summer we had to say good bud to our yellow lab Tackle who was 14 and made 8 trips in a row with us. Even before Covid we knew we would not be able to go because it would be too much for him. Looking forward to Christmas then a fresh start in 2021 hopefully our trip in August will be back to normal my wife and I will be down spending $$ and supporting all our favorite places.

Why don’t you purchase travel insurance? Many companies are now including Covid coverage....

RE: Thoughts on a March 2021 vacation

Yes. Was planning to purchase trip insurance. Just need to check the fine print to see if its included.

See if you can find 'cancel for any reason' insurance.

Hey Now - We can still shut down the bridges again - but we will let our good friends the NRPO's in to secure the borders this time. It was a nice time here that I don't think we will see again.

I called The travel insurance company and they said thay if the GOV issues a lockdown or won't let you travel, the insurance agency will not cover it. Only if you get sick from COVID. I asked Twiddy about refunds if the bridges close again and they could not tell me. Hard decision to make. I really want to come the end of March, but part of me is scared I wont be allowed to travel if our Governor puts that policy in place again.

There is cancel for any reason insurance available - you may have to seek it out on your own. I think Outer Beaches had started offering it as an option after what happened in the spring.

March generally tends to be slower. Any reason you couldn't want until February to book?

RE: Thoughts on a March 2021 vacation

With the COVID numbers now, I personally would not be booking, or righting a check. You are better off seeing what the next few months hold, then book a last minute place. Last June, we booked on a Monday and left that Saturday for Buxton. Less inventory to choose from is a reasonable trade off for not having to pay for, or fool with trip insurance. This of course is contingent on how complicated your group is. Multiple families, etc need to make plans....so I get it. March should also be an easy booking, even late. I did a quick March search, and got 456 results....from one booking agent....

RE: Thoughts on a March 2021 vacation

I wouldn't book March until after the holidays....unless you are renting my place. LOL j/k

This conversation has been going on in my house for a couple of weeks. We are reserved for a week on Ocracoke in April and are now trying to decide what to do once the lease arrives. To sign or not to sign? That is the question.

I think 2021 is going to be another busy year, with international travel being uncertain and many people still working remotely

I cannot tell you how happy it made me to see Dare county take a good solid gut punch over this issue. Truly wonderful.

ish

More of a slap on the hand than gut punch. Just enough so NRHO's could claim victory and feel all warm and fuzzy.

RE: Thoughts on a March 2021 vacation

An update to our dilemma...First, please know my husband and I signed the lease for the house, Pure Salt in Southern Shores last January 8, 2020, long before Covid-19 became a well-known phrase and health risk, Following a second phone call to Twiddy yesterday and getting no where, and yes, I understand they are the property managers and are looking at their own financial bottom line, I reached out to the owners through their FB page Pure Salt OBX - which I have been following since renting the house last January. I explained the brand new travel mandates issued in the state of Pennsylvania and by my employer just this past week. We would have been happy allow Twiddy to keep the payments on the house and simply apply the money towards a week next year (2021), however, the owners of the house want to take our week for their family and they requested Twiddy begin the refund process for us. They are happy to have their home for both Christmas and New Year's week and we are happy that we did not spend money on a house we were no longer going to be able to travel to and would sit empty for New Years week. A shout out to the homeowners for their graciousness and willingness to help us out! Twiddy did call yesterday afternoon to confirm the arrangements I made with the homeowner.

We are currently trying to work with Twiddy right now with regards to our week of vacation between Christmas and New Years. There are really no options available to us other than to cancel our reservation, now six weeks away. If Twiddy is able to rent the house out, they would then go ahead and issue us a refund less a $100 fee or a larger amount if they rent the house for less than the regular fee. My struggle is the state of Pennsylvania (our home state) and my employer just this week instituted a mandatory Covid-Test and/or a 2 week quarantine if residents leave the state. Neither my husband, nor I can afford to take another 2 weeks off work (unpaid) following our week's vacation. I am teacher and the teachers and the staff received the following information just this week from our superintendent after Dr. Levine's, Secretary of Health order:
• "If you are vacationing or traveling for personal reasons and get caught waiting on a COVID test or have to quarantine, sick
days cannot be applied."
Tough decisions to be made all around. Neither one of us wants to lose our jobs over a one week vacation, however, losing thousands of dollars is a bitter pill to swallow.

So sad that this is the state of things. Don't know what to say about it. Just guessing that the positives must be really high where you live and that the hospitals are brimming over with with sick people. If I were in the same situation it would be tough. I could not afford it as well. Hope you can find a solution. My daughter and son in law that live in chicago with big time closures are eating out tonight for her birthday dinner in a plastic pod outside they're fav restaurant. So glad this restaurant could accommodate.

RE: Thoughts on a March 2021 vacation

I think a return to the shutdown is unlikely, but you should certainly expect all states in March to be at least as restrictive as they are being now.

That means mandatory masks, limited dining/Indoor space, and certainly quarantines.

If your ideal vacation is holing up in your beach house for a week (which is what we did in August) I wouldn’t hesitate to go, but if you’re looking for March 2019 levels of openness and socializing, you’re going to have to wait until 2022.

RE: Thoughts on a March 2021 vacation

Im booked for April and August. taking our chances that lockdowns will not happen again. Seriously working healthcare, I need that hope and plans for a vacation. Been working in/out of isolation gear since March 2020. We are fed up like the rest of the country. btw we have had only 2 employees with COVID 19 and both were only slightly ill. We have worked our asses off to keep the patients healthy. if anyone needs a job look into nursing please and help us.

RE: Thoughts on a March 2021 vacation

Our ideal vacation is just going to the beach and sitting in the hottub. We cook all our meals, so going out is not important. I'm not worried about getting COVID, since Im pretty sure my whole family had it back in March, just more about the states having all these rules that make it impossible for us to drive there. April sounds better than March to visit, but March is when our kids have spring break, so need to stick to that week. We decided to wait on booking and see what happens.

RE: Thoughts on a March 2021 vacation

Bridges will be closed to all non residents. At least thats the rumer.
