RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Not much to report this evening. Dinner was sandwiches and chicken nachos from Waves Deli. Spent a little time in the hot tub, played a board game, made some hot dogs for night time snack and that’s about it.

My wife got hammered, so I’m being low key. Only one trashed adult at a time. Mace isn’t really eating his kibble, but seems to take people food. I made him a hot dog and he ate that. The salt water has his coat looking really good, but we’re gonna keep an eye on his appetite.

Had the chiefs game going in the background. I’m probably going to call it an early night.

Oh and hey — for turnover day I think we’re gonna day trip to Ocracoke. We’ve never been there. Anyone have any tips for me? Does John Moses Browning have a cigar store there? Might pay him a visit and pick up a stogie.

Fun little spot for lunch! They do have an outside eating area. Also fun places on the water for a cold beverage and something served in a shell.

Fun to park (or ride the passenger ferry) and rent bikes to explore. See the British Cemetery (google first to read all about it!), the lighthouse and enjoy all the little shops and quaint village atmosphere. Have fun!

My trip tip? Down in Hatteras Village... a little drive from Avon but well worth it... Harbor Deli... Shrimp Burgers!! They close at 2pm so it’s a lunch treat.

So, just googled this to put it on our list for next year - and apparently Monday was their last day. Its been sold, not too sure if the new owners are going to continue with the same menu. Seems to be the theme of 2020

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

My wife and go to Ocracke from Avon several times a year. Saturday is the best day to go to avoid long waits at the ferry. Best/only parking is at the NPS parking lot at the ferry dock in the village. Bikes are the best way to get the full flavor of the village if everyone in your group is capable. If not golf carts will work.

SmacNally's Waterfront Bar and Grill is our favorite place to eat lunch. Eduardo's Taco Stand is popular.

Springer's Point is an interesting walk, but has no parking for other than bikes.

Down Creek Gallery has very nice jewelry and art work. Village Craftsmen is owned by a family that has been on Ocracoke for generations and generations and are interesting to talk to. We always spend a few minutes at the Island Ragpicker. The wife likes Books To Be Red.

If you time it right you can have a sunset cruise on the way back. It always amazes me how different Ocracoke is from the rest of the OBX.

Turn day is a great day to head down there, and Dajios just re-opened. For outside drinks and dog friendly, our 2 favorite spots
are Zillies on the Back Rd and 1718 Brewery as you first come into town. Zillies has snacks for food and has a great deck and always has good music on. 1718 has Plum Pointe kitchen on site for food.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

If you go to Ocracoke, make sure you check out the beaches. There's a couple places with parking or just walk over from 12.

Definitely recommend taking the car ferry as that's a fun part of the trip over. Also the long drive to town is interesting in how undeveloped it is. Just drive all the way to the end and park. Then walk, cart, or bike.

PM JMB to make sure he's open.

Grumble grumble... curse, swear!!! That deli and Kat’s kept us alive during the dark months of April and May. I wish the former owners well and hope to meet the new owners soon.

I know the Frisco Sandwich Co was closed for some time.
I believe it’s reopened, maybe a change of ownership.

Sure do! 432 Back Rd up above the garage. I should be sorta open this weekend, but, it might be complicated. Crew is installing the pilings under my house this weekend. 32 18 footers delivered this morning. You can get my phone number off the website: ocracokecigars.com

Awesome, can I text you tomorrow or do you prefer a phone call?

So Mom requested silly mini golf so we used the break in the rain this morning to go to Nags head and play pirate golf.

Grabbed some lunch from yellow submarine and had a picnic out of the back of the car.

Another thunderstorm is rolling through, so I’m using the rain to make a drink and start getting organized and packed. Tomorrow is going to be an early morning.

Either is fine. You can probably park across the street. Yard is likely to be a mud hole. Jamie is out front filling his water tanks for tomorrow right now. He sinks a shallow well, pumps a couple old cisterns full of water, then uses that to jet out the piling holes.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Alright, got this place pretty well scrubbed for the family coming in here tomorrow. If cleaners don’t slack off tomorrow I don’t see why they can’t get them in by noon.

I’ll spot run the vacuum later this evening.

No worries. I’ll text ya tomorrow. If you would be willing to set me up with two decent cigars, I’ll just hand you some cash. We can work out the details tomorrow.

Nothing too fancy they’ll be wasted on me. I have very little experience with cigars.

So glad you have had a great week and signed up for another! Really have enjoyed all the pics. Nice choice to go to Ocracoke. May I suggest bringing a cooler with some ice? If you decide not to hang out at 1718 (but I suggest you do), you can pick up some "Crowler's" to go. Very cool place.

Dajio's is awesome for lunch, but Smacnally's on Silver Lake has awesome atmosphere. Eduardo's is also amazing! Park at the lighthouse and take a walk back to Springer's Point. You'll be on the island, so why not? Wear your walking shoes. (If mom can bike, it's a great way to see the island.) The Preservation Museum is down by the NPS/Ferry parking lot and gives a nice history of Ocracoke.

I think you're going to love it. Beer smiley

There is a disturbing lack of mango tango foxtrot available for sale right now.

I promise I had nothing to do with the current shortage.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

As my first week comes to a close I thought it appropriate to take some time and reflect. I like Avon. This is a nice place. I like it better than the tri villages, although that perspective may be colored by the fact that I was soundfront after Dorian where this time I’m semi OF. This house is nicer than the soundfront one in Rodanthe.

No mosquito issue here.

I won’t even try to compare Avon to Corolla. Two different places, each lovely in their own way. Each with their pros and cons.

I will say given the weather this week, I think Corolla would have had more to do other than day drink and cook at the house. I’m fine with day drinking and cooking at the house but after 4 days of that, it got a little boring. Having a place like TimBuk II would have been nice.

I like how rowdy Avon is. With the houses blasting music and partying during a wicked thunderstorm. I’ve never seen that in Corolla. Gives this place character. Much more of a party town down here.

Beaches are comparable. We didn’t hit a ramp, and honestly don’t intend to. The community beach access is what we used in the few short breaks in between storms. But I wouldn’t say this section of Avon and Pine Island have much difference in beach conditions.

Masking out indoors in public was 100% except for the super wings and the food lion. Conner’s was 100% and much much less crowded. If you’re gonna catch covid down here, it’ll prolly be from dining inside in a restaurant or from the Food lion.

I won’t name names, but places that on their website say their bar is closed....the bar is very much not closed.

Anyway, I’m a little tired from today, I’ll upload the last of the Mace pictures and try to get some rest. I’ve got a long day tomorrow, and we shall see how house number two looks.
