Aliphatic is in Avon

Where to begin? It’s been a wild ride getting here. We left Friday at 9 am and didn’t get into Chesapeake until about 6:30 pm. Traffic was wild, unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Philly and Delaware 1 was bumper to bumper until past Bethany Beach.

We crashed at the Hyatt in Chesapeake last night. I was pleased with the hotel room. We slept in hard this morning and left at 11:30 for Avon. Coming down 158 was wild. Traffic leaving OBX was bumper to bumper for at least 20 miles around noon today. I’ll bet it takes 4-5 hours to get back to Chesapeake when you’re leaving. I’ll want to research an alternate route for going home at the end of the week.

We stopped at Wave’s Deli for lunch. Masking was 100% compliant and they were BUSY! Was funny to see a dude barefoot, no shirt, just swim trunks in a surgical mask. Made me laugh. I had the Reuben and it was an awesome sandwich. They do not disappoint. Also well stocked with plenty of craft beer, an excellent selection. Found my Mango Tango Foxtrot.

Anyway we got to the house at 3:00 pm, found my house keeper (no mask and gave him 40$) and he stayed till about 5 pm and I’m happy with the cleaning. Only issue with the house is that my washer is filled with water and won’t drain. I’ll need to put in a work order for that in the morning.

Anyway, we got settled and made beds and unpacked some and headed for the beach. Not very busy here beach wise today, we’ll see how that holds up. Mace is a crazy person without his brother and broke my mom’s toe. Pretty swollen and very black and blue and getting worse. Tomorrow I need to hit a pharmacy so we can buddy tape it. She is taking it like a champ.

We did the grocery run around 6:30 and went to the Avon food lion. What a mess. I’d say 90% mask compliance and the place was PACKED. We got out as soon as we could and will try Connors for more supplies tomorrow.

Trying to get take out for dinner took a while. Oceana’s, the pizza joint here and the one I’m Buxton has busy tones until 8:30.

Finally got through to Oceana’s and they were graciously able to get me a take order for 9:00 pm. Whoever told me to try the blackened tuna griller, thanks so much!! That was awesome.

Enjoy! Hopefully this trip south of the Bonner is better than the last one.

Also of note, in the very crowded Food lion Breathless by the Corrs started playing and I had a crack ping moment.

So I started singing along out loud to the refrain as we were shopping “Go ahead and leave me breathless!” That drew some nasty looks even from under the masks.

Anyway, I need to run to Ace hardware tomorrow and pick up stoppers for the kitchen sink. Need to be able to plug a sink to do dishes.

Also it’s a little rowdy down here. I’m in an 8 br monstrosity surrounded by other monstrosities they are all filled. I went for a walk after the sun went down and every one of these houses has lights on and cars in the drive way. My neighbors are still up drinking and currently playing guitar. Another OF house is party house and has a wicked stereo system going outdoors which was playing what I think was T-Pain the rapper.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

I brought Medic with me....

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Anyway, that’s all for tonight.

Plenty more to come. Feel free to join me on my adventure, offer advice, troll me, or flame!

Whatever your heart sees fit. Life’s too short.

Night guys smiley

Sounds like you can roll with the punchs, a good thing Thumbs up
Enjoy your trip to the nth degree! smiley

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Hey man enjoy your vacation and keep the pics and reports coming.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Beach Pharmacy, both in Avon & Hatteras, are closed on the weekend. If you need more than what can be had at Food Lion or Ace you will need to run up to NH or KDH, maybe Manteo.

I do find it interesting your comment about your fur kid. The behavior of my friend’s Golden has changed some since his “sister” passed last year.

Hope you have a safe time and return trip.

Never heard of the Corrs. Followed you link. I like um, reminds me of The Go-Go's. When you leave out, consider making a left onto U.S. 64 at Whalebone Junction, then all the way to I-95 at Rocky Mount. Mostly 70 mph, and very little traffic. Enjoy my adopted hometown.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Awesome, I have something to look forward to this week! Glad y'all made it safely down. I didn't realize Medic moved on. So sorry for your loss. Glad you brought him along.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Enjoyed reading your report. Keep them coming along with photos. Traffic sounds like a nightmare. Enjoy!

BTW.....I was a big fan of the Corrs during their heyday. My friends thought I had lost it (me being into stuff like Queen, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Neil Young. Eagles). But I liked their sound/harmonies and their musical abilities. And must say Andrea Corr was such a cutie.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

I have too many of those brown boxes too. Crying smiley

You're a brave soul to try fish at a pizza place. Who Knew?

Its Labor Day Weekend, Philly, NJ, DE, MD from Friday AM until Tuesday morning traffic will be heavy. Moved my son down to Arlington, Va Saturday morning, driving 95 south from PA was great, coming back Saturday afternoon northbound traffic was horrible

The ocean is warmer than the water from the hose at the house.

The lack of paw prints is unsettling, but there’s a healing property to this. I can taste the salt on my lips and smell it in my clothes. I didn’t bring a bp cuff but I feel my heart rate slowing and my bp dropping, in a healthy good way.

I didn’t even bring a mask and I feel safe.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Ocean Isle. Stayed there in 2011 the week of Irene.

Medic's there - just not leaving any paw prints (that you can see anyway) smiley

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Hope Mom's toe isn't too painful, and I love that you brought Medic with you. I thought I was the only one who did that. Sorry for your loss, btw.

Hope you have a great week in Avon, and try the Mahi tacos at Oceana's next time you go, they're also very good.

edited to correct lost to loss, dang auto correct

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Quick after dinner post to say we went to sunrise seafood today and got some scallops and tuna steaks.

The scallops were phenomenal. An extraordinarily high quality product and our dinner was fantastic tonight.

I will be going back there tomorrow to see what else they might have.

If the tuna is as fresh and good as those scallops, I’m in for a real treat tomorrow.

Thanks for the awesome recommendation. Those folks know what they’re doing.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Today was a heck of a day. Up early and a solitary walk on the beach as I posted earlier. We ran some errands, hit Ace and got plugs for the kitchen sink and a proper non stick skillet. The condition of the pans here are poor. That’s my fault should have brought some from home.

We were done around noon and spent the afternoon by the pool.

The first memory for today involves pool time, we were lounging around having a good time and I happened to lay back and look to the sky. The clouds weren’t anything special, but I got a strange feeling.

What happened next was literally out of this world.

I’m a scientist and I don’t believe in ghosts, I’m not religious, or anything like that. I won’t go into details but what happened this afternoon was...unexplainable.

Unless you believe that Medic is still somehow here and still with me.

I know it sounds silly. I’m still trying to process this one.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

Anyway back to more mundane matters. Mom is being a total trooper about her foot. Can’t find medical tape until tomorrow so she’s been modifying bandaids as best she can to buddy tape two toes.

We walked almost 2 miles on the beach from this house to the Avon pier. We met some friends along the way. A beagle and a lab mix that was Houdini incarnate and slipped his harness.

We wrangled him back and made our way to the pier.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

It was just under a mile to the Avon pier one way.

RE: Aliphatic is in Avon

It’s really embarrassing to admit we are all out of shape from quarantine and a two mile walk left us sore.
