Up Next...Giant Saharan Dust Cloud

2020 certainly has been a gem. Now watch for a dust cloud to hit NC. Wonder if this will help with mask usage. Wink smiley

RE: Up Next...Giant Saharan Dust Cloud

It could not be worse than those awful 2008 fires with all the nasty ash and smoke that lasted for months. Sick smiley

A potential silver lining is it is suppose to make the sunsets remarkable.

So, ummm... is the dust here yet? I was expecting Armageddon when I awoke this morning, but alas it has been gorgeous out all day. Maybe it’s running late?

Anyone know which day should have the best dust sunrise/sunset?

You don't have a location set in your new profile, so we have no idea where "here" is. Not sure why you were expecting it this morning? Let us know where here is and it might help to answer that.

It’s been hazy and hot as all get out in Florida yesterday and today, Friday. More of the same this weekend. Time to start daily baths on the horses...

Well, I guess those are reasonable questions, haha! Sorry, I am new to the site. I’m in Corolla and I thought I’d read that the dust was due to arrive this morning.

" Don't think of it as dust. Think of it as maybe the soil of some great past civilization. Maybe the soil of ancient Babylon. It staggers the imagination. It may be soil that was trod upon by Solomon, or even Nebuchudnezzar. "

RE: Up Next...Giant Saharan Dust Cloud

I thought starting Sunday, but I could be off.

They're waiting on the Jug Handle to finish. I'm wondering how many people remember where I quoted this from.

RE: Up Next...Giant Saharan Dust Cloud

Will the Saharan dust make the pizza taste better or have any effect on traffic?

Will it get rid of internet trolls?

RE: Up Next...Giant Saharan Dust Cloud

Reminder to check and clean air filters on mowers, vehicles etc. If it's really dusty.

So...totally off topic, but I had to say "thank you, and never forget" as I see you are in the fire service. And in CT. If any of your older family members were also in the service in the same area as you...thank you for extinguishing our house fire back in the early '60's smiley

That evening I learned that shoving a dry Christmas tree up the chimney while my parents were out really was not a good idea.....

watched weather channel this am.

According to report, the "Sahara dust plume" is an annual event, but normally only send "800 million metric TONS" of sand across the atlantic to north and south America annually. [I'm going to turn in my weather geek card, I've never heard of this phenomenon.] This is an unusually heavy year because of storms over the Sahara whipping up the dust to the upper atmosphere. From satellite images, NC is on the fringes of the plume/ cloud. and since it's usually windy, should help dissipate the particles even more. The gulf coast and texas are getting a lot of the dust.
