RE: Restaurant changes

We were in Hatteras the end of the first week of June, and I thought of you when we went to Lighthouse Beach. I hope you are doing well. Stay safe and healthy!

RE: Restaurant changes

...and so it begins.

I said that anyone who wants to vacation best get there before August. I may have been too optimistic.

RE: Restaurant changes

Thanks for the updates! Keep them coming and would also welcome updates from further north if anyone has them.

RE: Restaurant changes

I can't imagine there will be a restaurant open on Hatteras in two weeks.

Lots of talk going on around the island. You may be right.

This really stinks for folks who depend on that summer revenue.

You’re so sweet. Thank you! I went there yesterday to shoot the cool clouds rolling in. So thankful I still have the ocean here through all of this mess.

Unfortunately most of us knew this was bound to happen. One person testing positive at a place like a restaurant will close it down. We have a place rented in September.....I think its a 50/50 chance it gets canceled. The snowball is starting to roll down hill

Clearly we are doing something wrong when the US has about 5% of the worlds population and we have 25% of the worlds cases

Maybe just maybe everyone actually using mask in stores etc.... will help curve it.

RE: Restaurant changes

From what I am seeing there has never been more people here since I moved here 6 years ago. Not just everything booked, but 8-10 cars parked at most large beach houses. And with the 4th coming up, I see 3 holiday waves.

1 - Starting tomorrow, as the national holiday is Friday the 3rd
2 - Starting next Thursday for the long weekenders..
3 - Sat 7/4 as a heavy turnover day.

There are no official fireworks, but we have been hearing the amateurs for weeks and expect it to get louder.

The positive cases are increasing locally and by word of mouth as noted here. Stay safe as this will be a bumpy ride.

My only advice is hit the stores you have to at off hours.. Food Lion in Avon opens at 5:30....

RE: Restaurant changes

Jessica .... is Pops closed? Or open?!!!

RE: Restaurant changes

Obx needs to be cleared out by about 30000 people. So truly very sad. For everyone but especially business owners due to the loss of revenue and resident that have to fear going outside. Sending lots of good thoughts

That's just about all the locals, we could all go to New York and wait it out. Confused smiley

They’re open. Few cars there last night. I sure miss hanging out there.

What's unfortunate is that the state/county didn't stick with takeout only and outdoor seating allowed without waitstaff. Where restaurants have transitioned to that modification (with wait staff switched to an hourly wage with or without tips) they have revenue stream and much less transmission - even with much broader testing done repeatedly.

Takeout is less revenue than full seating dining, but the partial occupancy doesn't offer much safety and for most restaurants, not a significant enough revenue bump to to make a big difference in the bottom line.

Hopefully they can scale back to takeout and double down on that business to avoid shutdown.

RE: Restaurant changes

Jessica, thanks for the updates and thanks for your positive attitude and great photos!

RE: Restaurant changes

We where there last week (Hatteras Village) and based on what we saw, we figured within the following week or so this would happen.

I have been watching for a month or more at the stream of visitors lining up to get in to a restaurant and no masks in sight. Not me - nope. Knew someone in the eatery business would get it someday and was surprised it took this long.

RE: Restaurant changes

Been out to eat twice in the last 4 months. The first place everyone wore masks, menus were disposable, cutlery was disposable. The second place no one had masks on. Not the greeter, not the server, not the chefs. Regular menus that are reused. We were pretty shocked.

Curious...did you stay to eat at the second one?
