RE: Good Drone Shot Of S Turns

Wow, that area looks like it won't be there much longer.

RE: Good Drone Shot Of S Turns

I know the surfs been rough and high but do y'all think this could be just rain water ponding Cloud My Avon vacation is in 2 days Car?

Yeah, You are Right> Here is "rest of story"..(high tide).

RE: Good Drone Shot Of S Turns

Looks like a 'Causeway' should have been an extention to the new bridge spanning OI

The "jug-handle bridge" (now under construction) will circumvent this problem area (S-turns). Further north in Pea Island, there will still be periodic overwash onto Hwy. 12.

RE: Good Camera Shot Of S Turns

Ok, I see the over wash clearly now. Will proceed with caution.

RE: Good Camera Shot Of S Turns

We went through there yesterday about 5 pm and didn’t have any issues. It has not been raining in Hatteras...but it is very windy!

....until about three weeks from now.....unless, as you probably know, you do a deep rinse after.

Please, slow down in this stuff and if you are chasing an OBX tagged vehicle there is a reason it's driving 2 MPH!

RE: Good Camera Shot Of S Turns

This has been happening all winter/spring and is due to the wind. This gets breached and NC DOT does some amazing things to get it rebuilt and reopened every time. Do your best to travel at low tide and keep to that DOT Tims page in case it does close.

RE: Good Camera Shot Of S Turns

11:00 am, closer to low tide

RE: Good Camera Shot Of S Turns

This has been happening for years.

Tom in PA

Fixed it for ya! smiley

C'mon Flatiron finish your magic!

RE: Good Camera Shot Of S Turns

Cannot argue with your edits, but I have seen more closures at that spot in the past 6 months than ever before. Several times when the sun was shining..... Just remember to go slow all.. next high tide is 7:30 pm tonight.

RE: Good Camera Shot Of S Turns

True, but we also don't have bridge closing anymore either that were often the previous reasons for closing (never mind S curves was washed out). End of the day, the beach "re nourishment" has all but been chewed up, the winter of 2018-2019 was an exceptional erosion "season" and, of course, the whole Chicamacomico thing is always going on!

And, again, echo, what Tom in PA says: puuhhhlease slow down smiley

That landscape is going to change drastically after they stop maintaining that road. It'll be interesting to see.

Good news for some as it will be a giant cul de sac and no traffic north of Liberty; bad news for those in north Mirlo as the NCDOT sense of urgency to clear the road will be gone as will the giant sand tube/socks and "pile the sand as high as you can" maintenance.

The 1st Major hurricane will cut another new inlet and NCDOT will let it flow! ........Although the Jug handle Bridge Pilings will have a effect on water flow.......Will be interesting!

Yep, just like Irene did.

I think the jug handle is too far out to have a significant flow impact, just hope any cut will not be too wide/deep so as to allow beach foot traffic to the north. But, yes, it will be a total schit show for home owners up north - I do feel for them.

Hence the "as you prob know" comment smiley - it's an excruciating financial experience otherwise.

I appreciate this tip. We are staying in HV for the first time in a couple weeks, and I would have known to slow down but probably wouldn't have thought about rinsing the car off until we get back home.
