It's the Saltaire Motel just South of Winks. Don't know when it was built, but go to be early 50's, maybe before.
Could you clarify the "Saltaire" part? Do you mean the Saltaire portion of Duck, or somewhere else? I've rented the past three years in Saltaire/Duck, and the houses are manged by several different agencies but the bulk of them seem to be through Twiddy.
Thanks Pickle and 11th Ave. Its strange, been staying on the beach rd near Winks off and on since the 90's and I just draw a blank with this place. Or maybe the name. Is it the collection of red one story buildings? I think Lindbergh at the rear of the complex?
Tim thanks for the visual. I recognized it once I saw the photo but for some reason forgot all about it. The only hotel I could picture just south of Winks is the Sea Kove. I'm getting forgetful because we were Winks regulars!
It's the Saltaire Motel just South of Winks. Don't know when it was built, but go to be early 50's, maybe before. More like late 50's & early 60's. We stayed next door ocean front from 1955-69. Built by the Stokes family. They had a cottage ocean front for several years before they built the first part of the Saltaire on the ocean side. They expanded across the street over the years. Of course, everything on the ocean front has been gone for a long time.
I heard that the new owners are turning part of Winks into an ice cream shop and hope to have that open before summer. The rest will be much like the old Winks with a deli and store and will keep the Winks name.
Those are nice ideas, and having the convenience part is the most benefit ( well for convenience). Being able to get ice and some quick items and not have to go down to Rite aid or on the bypass.
