Update on the Old Winks and Saltaire news

Hello from OHIO, Just wandering if there are any updates on the Winks front. We know that Arts now owns it have they talked about what they will be doing with it yet ?
We know that Saltaire owners are no longer using Beach Realty they are going Air B&b for bookings. What a great group of guys so far, really taking an interest in what long timers like us combined 60 years ! want for upgrades and any other concerns. So far the last summer upgrades were nice albeit few. Now if we can get winks back in some form and the Saltaire owners to really continue to care we will be Outer banks bound again

Could you clarify the "Saltaire" part? Do you mean the Saltaire portion of Duck, or somewhere else? I've rented the past three years in Saltaire/Duck, and the houses are manged by several different agencies but the bulk of them seem to be through Twiddy.

It's the Saltaire Motel just South of Winks. Don't know when it was built, but go to be early 50's, maybe before.

More like late 50's & early 60's. We stayed next door ocean front from 1955-69. Built by the Stokes family. They had a cottage ocean front for several years before they built the first part of the Saltaire on the ocean side. They expanded across the street over the years. Of course, everything on the ocean front has been gone for a long time.

Thanks Pickle and 11th Ave. Its strange, been staying on the beach rd near Winks off and on since the 90's and I just draw a blank with this place. Or maybe the name. Is it the collection of red one story buildings? I think Lindbergh at the rear of the complex?

The Saltaire is a motel just south of Art's in Kitty Hawk. No idea what will become of Winks.

Two stories. Units on both sides with pool in the middle It was originally brown with yellow shutters but I believe it is gray now with white.

The red X is Winks

Tim thanks for the visual. I recognized it once I saw the photo but for some reason forgot all about it. The only hotel I could picture just south of Winks is the Sea Kove. I'm getting forgetful because we were Winks regulars!

I miss Winks a lot. Mainly lunches and the now and then Friday night prime rib meal which was great when I was on my own for dinner.

Yes thanks for pointing that out to folks.
Happy New Year and the countdown begins...

I heard that the new owners are turning part of Winks into an ice cream shop and hope to have that open before summer. The rest will be much like the old Winks with a deli and store and will keep the Winks name.

The last oceanfront unit was taken out by Isabel in 2003. We stayed in the unit in 2002

I hope you are correct, but it is a far cry from what was "thought" to be going in there. Strange they would sell all the shelving to go out and buy it again for the store they will have there if that is the plan. There were no plans to tear it down for houses, at least at this time, but I always heard it would be different than what was there.

Those are nice ideas, and having the convenience part is the most benefit ( well for convenience). Being able to get ice and some quick items and not have to go down to Rite aid or on the bypass.

The Rite Aid is gone and is now a Walgreens I think.

Whats the restaurant next to the saltaire? Best breakfast in the OBX I have had thus far....I'm Scot's Irish peasant stock mind you...all the same , that place rocks.

RE: Update on the Old Winks and Saltaire news

Art's Place - you must not eat here often. There are better places!
