"What's in a Beach House name?".....is a great question...and one i've been trying to answer for close to 4 years. I purchased a home in the Currituck Club a few years ago and left the name "Sugar Shack". My property manager confirmed it causes confusion with rental guests if you change the name of the home. That being said, "Sugar" is a play on the last name of the prior owner. Prior to that, the name of the home was "Chip Shot" in relation to the golf course that is located within the Currituck Club. For the past few years, I have been trying to dream up a new name. For quite some time i favored "The Alchemist's Sound". The house is on the Currituck Sound. And for those of you have read "The Alchemist", well, my life's journey has led me to exactly where I've always belonged- The Outer Banks . Unfortunately, the name "The Alchemist's Sound" has been met with A LOT of resistance. Some say it's too hard to pronounce and some say it's too cerebral. That name just resonates with me...for so many reasons. I do have a back up ..."Imagine". Now, that's a concept that resonates with everyone!
Perhaps if I owned a house I may care but as a renter I must say I give zero figs about the name of a house nor do I care about house signs.
My fave of the bunch is fiddler on the reef and going coastal. I hate to say it but if I think the name is cute I will check out a house more.
Here is the list that we used when considering a new name for the house. We changed the name of the house in conjunction with moving to another property management company in 2015. I ran the list by the new management co. and I starred the ones that they liked the best. Our rental house is in Villages at Ocean Hill, and its on Ocean Hill Court, and since our last name is Hill the name seemed kinda obvious “Hill Cottage”Click to follow link...Our other house is named after our dog Gryphon !And lastly we have a 1.75 acre semioceanfont lot up at the Virginia line that we named “Breezy Point” after Breezy Point NY where my family had a beach house when I was growing up.
Hill Cottage? That's too close to the horror movie Hill House for me.
