What's in a Beach House Name?

Should be a good discussion topic for the group ...

If you had the opportunity to name a beach house, what would you name it and why?

Look forward to seeing everyone's thoughts! Thumbs up

Serendipity.

Because it means I hit the jackpot on the Powerball.

There have definitely been some good ones. But I remember a cottage on the ocean side of Kitty Hawk called "my blue haven". Every time we passed it my mother (a big broadway fan) would break into song. Somehow its hard not to just remember that house name with great warmth.

I liked "TajMaHatteras' and thought "not on call" were great names... but I just havent found my favorite name yet

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

Na Twerkin’

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

I'm kinda boring with names. I'd probably name it the same as my old boat. Southern Comfort or maybe Reel Paradise

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

We kept the name the house had: Sea Turtle.

Would have changed it to Oh Karma Chameleon, if we didn't like the house name.

My last name is Okarma. People have said we should change the name.

One of the most creative names I heard is a soundfront house called DOGS BLOWING OFF CHAINS...its a phrase that means very windy. Now someone really thought about it awhile. I also laughed at the possibility of calling in and saying yes I'm staying at DOGS BLOWING OFF CHAINS and I have a question. Lol. Fyi its a rental in Rodanthe. I have played with names but nothing exciting. ...EDIT NECESSARY ITS CALLED.... Blowing Dogs off Chains. AND its not pet friendly darn it!

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

It wouldn't be "It's five oclock somewhere" since about 100 people have already used that one.

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

Many Creative Names out there. Years ago everything was either "Beachy" or actual Family Names or a "play" on them. Ours was "High N Dry", which it was. I know that all rental companies use the house "Name" and people looking for rentals use the house name. However, locals do not associate with the names. You want me to check a house, give me an Address!

La Villa Strangiato , as a homage to my favorite rock band of all time, Rush

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

We call our little retirement condo on the sound "Casa Manana" because "that can wait until tomorrow" has become our standard response to pretty much everything anything but beach time.

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

Our place is named "Simply A-Mazzing" which is a little play on the last name which begins with Mazz.

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

Anything that uses a pun so bad that it causes people going past to groan. Maybe Afterdune Delight? Shell Yeah? Tide Down?

Makes me think of David Sedaris' story about buying a beach house and how he ended up naming it "Sea Section", to the horror of his family.

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

We named our first beach house, 'Lucky Us', we named our second beach house 'Lucky Us Too', need I say anymore

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

I've picked out many fantasy beach house names over the year's...always musically inspired because I cant think of an interesting twist or pun of my last name.

"Incense and Peppermints"
"Paradise City"
"Bad Moon Rising"
"House of the Rising Sun"

And if I had a blue or maize mcmansion, I'd go with "The Big House".

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

Just a slight "off topic" observation: Like beach houses, lake-side vacation houses/cottages have names, too.

I had friends from Pittsburgh that had a lake-side cottage called the "Oar House". It is close to us at a place called Lawco Lake.

After dinner with friends one summer evening at a restaurant along the Ohio River, I told my wife I was heading out to the lake to fish for a couple of hours, and if you need to get in touch, just call the Oar House. You could hear a pin drop.

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

“Just call the oar house”

LOL!!! Thank you for that, that was very funny.

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

I graduated from Ohio State in 1978. Back then the Oar House was a popular south campus bar!

In Frisco on Paradise Dr

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

"What's in a Beach House name?".....is a great question...and one i've been trying to answer for close to 4 years. I purchased a home in the Currituck Club a few years ago and left the name "Sugar Shack". My property manager confirmed it causes confusion with rental guests if you change the name of the home. That being said, "Sugar" is a play on the last name of the prior owner. Prior to that, the name of the home was "Chip Shot" in relation to the golf course that is located within the Currituck Club.

For the past few years, I have been trying to dream up a new name. For quite some time i favored "The Alchemist's Sound". The house is on the Currituck Sound. And for those of you have read "The Alchemist", well, my life's journey has led me to exactly where I've always belonged- The Outer Banks Red heart Rainbow . Unfortunately, the name "The Alchemist's Sound" has been met with A LOT of resistance. Some say it's too hard to pronounce and some say it's too cerebral. That name just resonates with me...for so many reasons. I do have a back up ..."Imagine". Now, that's a concept that resonates with everyone! Wink smiley

RE: What's in a Beach House Name?

Here's how our house got its name...

Our canal front house in Avon was built in the late 70s before the municipal water system was installed. Like everybody else, we had a well by route 12 because there's a bubble of potable water under the center of the island. Our well was where the Dairy Queen is now. The plastic pipe running to our house was buried a foot deep under the sand beside Seashore Boulevard. In those days, the roads in Hatteras Colony were privately owned, poorly maintained, and had numerous pot holes. Over time, the pot holes got so big that folks started driving off the road to avoid them. This cracked the pipe causing our well pump to lose prime as air was sucked into the pipe through the sand. We had to fill five gallon jugs at the Avon Supermarket and bathe when it rained.

When the municipal water system was installed in the early 80s, our water woes ended and we named the house "Water Works". It's on the water, we liked the play on the Monopoly property and the water actually worked.

I have to agree the ones that the PM liked the most are super cute. My fave of the bunch is fiddler on the reef and going coastal. I hate to say it but if I think the name is cute I will check out a house more.
