Correct me if I’m wrong. Mr. Taylor did, indeed, first name it Taylor ham, but sometime (maybe in the 60s) the food and drug administration declared it couldn’t be called ham because it was not legally ham, but a prepared meat product...hence came the term pork roll. Still both names are used interchangeably.
This is absolutely true Judy, but since 1906 it has been pork roll. Northern New Jersey folks still live in the early 1900s and call it Taylor ham. They also call coming down to my area to go to the beach as "going down the shore"....figures. There are other producers of pork roll, but none as good as Taylor.
