My First Night in Rodanthe

Against all odds, I pulled it off! I’m sound front in Rodanthe until Sunday!

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

Is the sound always kinda busy? There’s something splashing around out there and I am concerned that the creature from the black lagoon is coming for me.

Also how do I create a citronella fire pit? I’m going to need it.

Any tips for Rodanthe? Where to go, where to eat? Probably going to hit Lone Cedar for dinner. I’m trying to avoid running to Nags Head every day, I’m south of the Bonner. I should try to stay south.

Also this is a bit of a culture shock compared to PI....

My house is, uhm.....very laid back.

Give me some time to get settled.

A nice touch

Congrats, enjoy

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

Congrats!

We had a week just near you back in July.

Mostly we cooked in but did get some great seafood there at Austins.

Pizza place just a bit down the road was a hit with the kids.

DG has a bit of food supplies in there, a bit of frozen stuff too.

**. I am thinking you must be a chemist with referring to your name. I see that and think hydrocarbons.

Enjoy!

Goodwinds (upstairs @ Kitty Hawk Kites) is open. Waves Deli for some of the best take out around - chicken nachos, as mentioned around here, are epic. Not sure about Real Sports' Waterman's Grill but, if reopened, the Sesame Tuna (it's an app, but great for dinner).

Enjoy! Careful if you go swimming oceanside - still lot's of debris (some significant) out there.

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

We like Lisa's Pizza. Usually stop there on our way to Ocracoke. Probably not happening this year though. We have a house reserved for the 22nd and not too optimistic the island will be ready

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

Congrats on being able to finish out your vacation. Waves Deli has AWESOME sandwiches. Yummy. Can't wait. Lisa's Pizza is pretty great too. Not sure if Austin's is open but they have yummy seafood dinners. Enjoy! Can't wait to see some pictures.

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

Try Café Pamlico which is part of The Inn on Pamlico Sound - they are open and they are very good....and they are south of Avon.

We've never stayed up in the Rodanthe area so I don't know any restaurants there.

Enjoy yourselves!

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

I would also recommend Café Pamlico but as it is south of the high school in Buxton it won't be available to you until that area reopens. In Buxton, if open, try Rusty's for dinner and Buxton Munch (next to the ABC store) for lunch both are great. Be sure to take a trip to the lighthouse. The beach is an easy walking distance from the parking lot. Hang around Haulover, south of Avon, and watch the windsurfers, Also in Avon go to the pier, Pangea Tavern is another good place to eat. Across of the street is a good spa at Klub Koru.

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

Top Dog Cafe... simple menu but good.
Lisa's is OK to good.
Waves Deli has great sandwiches.

Of course it is going to be laid back compared to Paris Island..... Theeth smiley

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

Thanks for the replies! I had a reservation at cafe Pamlico for earlier this week. I’ll have to research if they’re open anytime soon. Heard great things.

Feeling totally blessed. And I feel better with a few hours sleep.

Omg these views! Not OF, but no worries this is still impressive!

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

Anyone know what they’re building?

...

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

I presume the sound is still flooded? The water comes up to nearly the edge of the house.

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

oh yay! Look at you all beachin it and stuff!

Ok everybody's different right? But we were just there in early May and we LOVED the Watermen's Grill! Loved the atmosphere, loved watching the kite surfers, loved the views at sunset, loved it all!

Top Dog was good - simple, sammies sort of thing. We ate out on the porch (of course it was spring so the weather was great) and loved it.

We rode bikes on the bike trail from the pier area down to the end of the tri villages where the trail dumped us off in a parking lot near a campground and the sound. At the time it was totally empty and just neat to walk around.

Enjoy!!!!!

Yes I am a chemist/biochemist!

That construction must be the jug-handle bridge.

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

That is a new bridge going out into the sound and that will turn back to land about 2.5-3 miles north of where you are. You passed the construction starting at the other end when you came down. It is called the 'jug-handle' bridge due to its shape, and is to bypass the S-curve area just north of Rodanthe, which has been badly washed out in the past, which blocks direct wheeled access to Hatteras Island.

Too bad it will be in the view there...

Totally!! Just grateful to be outta the very busy Dewey beach and back on obx! My dogs weren’t handling high rise condo life well and the stress is just melting off. I feel almost high.

I’m going to do some exploring, my
Mom came back and she’s got a Honda CR-V which should get us around. I don’t trust the mustang unless I’m headed back north.

If I’m feeling pretentious, Paper Canoe is only an hour away! I don’t wanna do that tho, I can always book in Pine Island another time. This is a different place with a different feel and I need to adapt and not be so damn stuffy!

No worries about the construction it’s still a gorgeous view and the fact that I even scored a house at all is a gift from God!

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

Suggestion next vacation 1 week oceanfront 1 week soundfront. Rent kayaks for the sound. And go crabbing. So fun. My daughter actually prefers soundfront now.

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

Glad to hear you're able to salvage at least some of your vacation. I love Rodanthe. So laid back, but yeah, you're going to have to head south (or way north) for dinner. Rodanthe is nice in that a trip north or south is very reasonable. Have a great time! Get some kayaks and explore the sound!

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

So glad to see you made it south. I did a week on the ocean in Rodanthe for Memorial Day. Lisa's Pizza delivers, and we had a nice lunch at Watermen's. Relax, your vacation has sure been busy. Nice pics, thanks for your update!

RE: My First Night in Rodanthe

Yep, first time south of the Bonner can be a bit of culture shock! But in the best kind of way. Enjoy!!!
