Now I wanna make cornbread .

RE: Restaurants

It used to be Fisherman's Wharf in Wanchese. Hands down the best value between Corolla and Frisco for a long time. I still miss the place.

That said, I now prefer O'Neals, Kill Devil Grill and tne Red Drum. Honorable mention to the Black Pelican and Lucky 12. All great places to get seafood eating at reasonable prices.

RE: Restaurants

Shrimp Queso at Red Drum. Fish tacos at Hurricane MOs. Pizza at Lucky 12. Crab dip at Sugarcreek. Sandwiches at Sam and Omies. Steamed seafood at Goombays. We hit those every trip.

RE: Restaurants

And we always visit Linda at Steamers in Southern Shores! We always used to get takeout when she was up in TimBuck II as well. Great seafood and the most wonderful New York style cheesecake! Banana Banana

On Hatteras Island, I am partial to the Cafe at the Inn on Pamlico Sound, Rusty’s Surf and turf, and my all time fav, Hatteras Sol, where I generally choose an entree from their “specials” of the day. If you have a hankering for an outstanding salad, their goat cheese and spinach salad is killer good, and huge!

Funny thing is all three of those restaurants have shared the same chef staff at some point.

RE: Restaurants

FYI-For the Northern Beach goers, apparently there is a new to go place in Duck called Cookshak fried chicken. A friend who is a chef here in DC tried it and loved it. It's on my list to try.

RE: Restaurants

Hatters Sol without a doubt. Shrimp and grits...most excellent.

Just got back from a wonderful week at OBX. Tortugas Lie and Blue Moon consistently impress. Outer Banks Brewing Station seemed to have slipped a notch. Wish they would up their beer game too as they are also behind the curve on craft brewing.

RE: Restaurants

I am surprised no mention of The Salt Box on Colington Rd. Best food on the beach as far as I am concerned. They require reservations for a reason in the summer. The fish specials are my favorite.

I was down this week for a day trip with my sister and we went to The Salt Box for the first time. We had never heard of it. It was wonderful! I got a BLT sandwich and it was unlike any other BLT I have ever had. I got the sweet potato fries with it and a glass of the best iced tea. My bill was only $11 and some change. The crab cake my sister got was amazing. I can't wait to go back again.

I drove past that one night on the way to some ice cream place just beyond it (which was good). Thought at the time, I have to try that place. It’s officially on my list.

Off the top of my head these are my must stop spots when I'm down. I'm probably forgetting a couple.

Blue Moon/Blue Water - Either spot is great. We've been leaning more towards Blue Water the past few times we've been down though. Shrimp n Grits baby.
Basnight's Lone Cedar
Tortuga's Lie
Mama Kwan's - Jerk Chicken Tacos!

RE: JK's

All,

Hands down, best meal out this year was at JK's last night. I had the unadvertised Friday night prime rib special, which was the best meal I've had in a long time, OBX and otherwise, and I'm generally not a beef eater. 3 other members of our party had beef, two had chicken, consensus vote was JK was # 1, beating out Tale of the Whale.

Tale of the Whale was # 1 last year, but didn't quite get there this year. A little too tightly wound this time around. Ocean Boulevard was a close #3.

Did not get to I Got Your Crabs this year. On our list for next year.

We're leaving OBX tomorrow after almost 3 weeks, and will hopefully return next year for our 6th visit. We wish everybody the best if Dorian or other storms head this way!

Turner’s in Avon has the absolute best fried pickles I’ve ever had, and I’ve sampled many. Love to stop in for a quick snack of pickles and their spice girl mixed drink.
