Great week in Avon but.......

Great week in Avon but.......

My family had a great time again in Avon, the house we have rented for the last few years is perfect for how many we bring down. we have over 16 people including my grand kids. We use Hatteras realtor and they told us today that they rented our place for the same week next year without offering it to us. They told us last year we had to confirm before 5pm Tuesday.after we left. We found out before 5 today that we couldn't have it. To say I'm not happy is an understatement. My wife said whoever she talked to was pretty condescending. Is this normal practice or did someone offer a lot of money to kick us out?

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

I’m sorry you didn’t get your house for next year. I may be wrong, but I thought it had t be prereserved the Tuesday of the week you are there. Anyway, it’s not the end of the world, just a tad disappointing. Consider it a chance to find something new and different. An adventure!

We love our cottage and will be going back for our 11th year. We have always had to "reserve" the same weeks in September on the day we left and it was held until we made our 1/2 rent deposit in November. Some years ago the rental agency started charging $50 "administrative fee" to reserve. This "fee" is non-refundable and is not applied to your rent. Thumbs down

Per the Hatteras Realty website:
Advanced Reservations
In the past, our guests have had the opportunity to re-book their home and week during their vacation stay. As guest's vacation demands have changed, we have listened and will now be offering the ability to plan your Outer Banks vacation sooner!
For 2020 homes with rates, you will be able to pay a portion of the initial deposit to hold your reservations. No tentative hold fee will be charged. Homes that do not have 2020 rates yet will require a tentative hold fee of $35 + tax to reserve the home/week until leases are released in the fall of 2019. This advance rental reservation fee is nonrefundable.

I don't see anything else so it looks like they may have changed the way that they handle reservations. (And I'm sure that each company handles pre-booking differently; I know that Midgett's policy is that you have to book by the Wednesday of the week you're there.)

That's so disappointing but you can now have fun looking at other houses!

I know you must be sad that the house will not be available but things happen for a reason. You will have a new adventure looking for another house .I was always under the impression that you had t book the next year before you left, like Robert said. Sorry you didn't get the right treatment from the rental staff. It may be worth a call to the supervisor. in the end, it will all work out.

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

I assume different realtors have different policies. But why they all wouldn't give you until check out to reserve for the following year is beyond me.

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

Maybe the owners are planning to use the property that week.

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

My wife talked to a supervisor and she said emails were sent out about the changes, we didn't get the email. She found out that a lot of people didn't get it and the place we rent was already rented for next year before we even got there so it wouldn't have made a difference. So now we are going to find another area or state for next years vacation

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

You can thank Wyndham Resorts for that, the current owner's of Hatteras Realty.

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

So given that policy, if I rent a house for the first time, I have to decide whether I want to rent it again the following year, before I even get to see it and determine that it is worth renting again? Ridiculous.

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

Yes, bosom, and it does sound odd. According to the info someone copied above from the Hatteras site, it says they “listened” to what the visitors wanted in fearing homes as soon as rates came out. I don’t understand why they would take this amenity away from current, loyal customers of a articulations residence. Midget still offers advance res for the following yr if booked by Wednesday of stay.

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

I’m sorry, that policy change doesn’t seem like good customer service.
We are owners at the obx but also love to rent in Ocean Isle Beach, NC and the policy there is Wednesday 5:00 the week of your stay- properties open to everyone Thursday of the week you’re there. That seems more fair to me.

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

I always thought Outer Beaches
Reality gave us until check out day to reserve for the same week the next year and they just rolled over the deposit

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

Yes,Midgett offers the following year, same dates, IF you tell them the first Wed. of the first week...Also, and this stinks...you have to pay 10% of the total rent. That can amount to quite a bit if you stay for 2 weeks.

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

Surf or sound is also the same way. This was the first year I booked with them. And they sent emails saying about booking for 2020. I was never at the house so I was not even sure if we would like it for sure. But then I also was thinking I don't want to lose it either if we do like it so I just booked it when I got the email. Luckily we were down in May and it was great.

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

How can they reserve next year? I thought owner/PM contracts ran year to year, with those contracts being signed in October for the following year? Tim? Anyone else in the real estate management business care to chime in?

RE: Great week in Avon but.......

The same thing happened to us last year when we left. We had until 5pm the Tuesday after we left and when we called before then it was already booked! This would be our 11th year at this home and to not go back that week to the same house would be devastating! After much back and forth, the real estate company told the people that had booked it to find another week! Thank God!
