Time to put on pants and they don't fit Sad smiley The Vacation is over and I am so disgusted with myself right now that starting tomorrow its time to get back on the treadmill and get this ball of fat rolling. I am giving my self until my next trip down to Hatteras (June 7th) to lose at least 25 lbs. Hoping I will accomplish that goal by saying it out loud here.

Couple of months ago went to ER for something. When they took the BP it was 160/100. I told them white coat syndrome. They were going to have to cut me for something so some of it was nerves but it had never been that high. So here is what I did... I did not diet, I made better choices as far as foods. I am on the road a great deal for work so fast food is easy. I used to eat lunch at McDonalds etc..4 times a week. I have all but eliminated fast food. I cut out sweet tea and diet sodas, cut my coffee from 10 to 12 cups a day to 2. Started walking 2 miles a night or roughly 1/2 hr, 5 or 6 times a week. I lost 10 lbs in 5 weeks. Due to back to school shuttle service for my son and friends I haven't walked in a month. Still down 8lbs. Need to get back walking. Would like to loose another 15 by June.

That is great!! I as well stuggle with the high BP mainly due to nerves and stress since I have a tendency to worry about everything. My main problem is not getting out and getting enough exercise, so I really need to work at getting to the gym soon. Haven't had any fast food in a few years now and for the most part I would say I eat well, just maybe to well, too much, with a few too many adult beverages over the summer. I slipped quite a bit during vacation, but normally I stay away from gluten because it upsets my digestive system so I really need to get back on track with that as well as cutting back on the starches.

I actually lose a few pounds during a week on the Outer Banks. We only go out to one, maybe two breakfasts. Eat in all the time. Made two pizzas tonight. They will be dinner tomorrow, too.

The difference is that there is no food to snack on during the day when I am hungry like at home.

Cheesy corn bake with added ham for two other nights. It's a side dish from Jack Stack BBQ, KC, and the recipe is on their web site. One skillet meal.

Lifeguards form Corolla Ocean rescue over for dinner another night. baked ziti, and my wife will make tart lemon squares for dessert.

I'll pick at leftovers to use up on Friday, and my wife will make herself a baked pancake.

My weight is up a bit from where I want it. Diet and exercise together are needed for me to lose weight. Diet alone doesn't do it.

You can follow my progress in the weight loss forum under my post "Starting Today!"

This weekend was a bust for me, but I worked out this morning and have all my diet food ready for this week. I'm organizing a 30-35 mile bike ride for this weekend too smiley

It's Monday Confused smiley Time to get honest with myself so I'm posting it here....My weigh in this morning was 146.2. Not Good!! No wonder my pants don't fit!! Looks like I now have 26.2 lbs. to lose by June 7th. At 54 years old this will not come off easily so I really think that I have my work cut out for me.
9/22 - 146.2

9/23 - 145.2 smiley With 36 weeks to go I am setting a realistic goal of .7 of a lb. loss per week to get me to my goal weight of 120. Any loss over that is a plus, plus, plus!!

9/24 No weigh in today, think I'll do that every Monday from here on out but the good news is Ralph (hubby) and I made it out for a 4 mile walk last night after dinner, which is a good start to the exercise part of my weight loss journey. Feeling a little sore this morning but If I can find some time today I might try to get to the gym to loosen things up.

9/25 Yeah!!! After a 2 yr. hiatus I made it back to the gym. 45 min workout (machines & treadmill) Felt good and I didn't overdo so I am ready to do it again if I can find some time in the schedule today. Met a woman (Elizabeth) that was interested in finding a biking partner to do a 25 mile bike ride along the Appalachian trail and thought that would be great since no one else I know is capable of making the ride with me and its always nice to have a biking partner that can keep up the pace. So far I seem to be making good food choices and prepared for temptation to show its ugly face soon by making some black bean brownies and paleo oatmeal cookies. Both taste delicious and are made without sugar or flour so I consider it a healthy cheat if I want one.

9/26 No break for gym yesterday but made it out to do the 4 mile walk after dinner with Ralph. Had a break in my schedule this morning so I headed to the gym for a Yoga class and 1/2 hr. on the elliptical. Trying to mix things up so I don't get bored.

9/28 Places to go, people to see so other then a lot of walking at Arts & Crafts Festival I didn't get my workout yesterday but I did make it to the gym this morning for 1/2 hr. on machines, 1/2 hr. on elliptical and a yoga class. Maybe I will get a walk in this evening but we will see how the day goes. I am still staying on track with my food choices but might have to cut down on portions and start weighing things and besides that I am feeling a little guilty about having a few classes of wine last night so I hope that doesn't completely mess up my weigh in tomorrow.

9/29 - 144.2 not the big first week weight loss that I wanted to see but 2 lbs. is 2 lbs. so I'll take it and forge ahead.

9/30 - 145.2 Got to the gym last night for another yoga class and 2 miles on the treadmill. Got back on MyFitnessPal App. and started logging my food intake and started tweeking the diet a little more to include more proteins. Knew I shouldn't have done it but got on the scale this morning only to find I gained a pound....back up to 145.2 Confused smiley I knew this wasn't going to be easy.

10/1 - 144.2 Pound gone again and I'm back on track. According to MyFitnessPal I am not eating enough and ate to much sugar (fruit) one day and too much protein the next. Oh I'm so confused!! But I made it out for my 4 mile walk yesterday and heading to the gym this morning (30 min strength training, 40 min. cardio)

10/3 - 143.6 Slowly but surely

10/6 - 141.9 smiley I can fit into my pants again Theeth smiley

10/13 - 140.6 I'm still Hanging in there. Keeping up with my diet religiously and in one way or another I am getting out and exercising almost everyday while giving my body one day a week (Saturdays) to rest. It gets a little frustrating when I am working so hard at it and not losing big every week but any loss is a good loss and at my age and weight a pound a week is actually what I should expect myself to be losing.

10/20 - 139.4 WooHoo I'm out of the 40's!! Theeth smiley

10/31 - 138.2 Happy Halloween!!

11/2 - 137.0 smiley smiley smiley

11/3 - 136.4

Don't worry too much about cutting down on how much you eat, unless you are eating a lot of junk.

Concentrate on eating less junky carbs, like white bread, pasta, white rice, etc. Switch to whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, and brown rice. Quinoa is a good substitute for white rice too.

Drink a lot of water. I'm up to about 7 liters a day! After I eat a meal, I give myself about 2 hours to polish off a liter bottle.

Another good tip is eat as much protein as you can - it will make you feel more full.

When you go to the gym, try to mix in some weights. Working out with weights burns more calories than walking on a treadmill.

Eat a lot of fiber. I eat Fiber One cereal every morning, along with a whole egg and 2 egg whites.

Thanks for the great tips fafa. I am a very clean eater (mostly organic) never processed foods and for the most part gluten free. As of yet I haven't been diagnosed for it but assume that I am very much gluten intolerant or have celiac disease because I suffer terribly when I eat it. My philosophy on that is if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck its probably a duck so since vacation has ended I have gone back to strictly being gluten free. My big downfall is starches and carbs. Pasta is pretty rare for me and has to be gluten free but I love basmati rice and probably over portion on it and potatoes can be cut back or cut out of my diet as well. Also my favorite snack is popcorn cooked with olive oil and seasalt which I might have to limit to smaller and fewer servings during the week if I want to make any progress. I really do have to step it up a bit and be consistent with exercise since my metabolism has been on vacation for a very long while and needs to be put in high gear. Right now any exercise is good exercise its just a matter of finding what I'm comfortable with. Free weights are good for my upper body but not legs (Problem area). I have one bad knee with no bursa and can't do much pressure on it so that means no running, jumping or aerobics for me. It sucks to get old!!

So far so good. Of course I am not losing as fast as I would like but I guess it isn't a race. Slowly but surely it will come off and I really have to start looking at it as more of a lifestyle change rather then a diet. My progress to date is above.

PS...you better stay away from those duck donuts when your wife gets back Wink smiley

I'm doing good. Got back on Myfitnesspal app. and I have been sticking with the diet and exercise. I love my glass of wine with dinner so as long as I exercise everyday that is my reward. It seems to be working as of this morning I am down 5 pounds from when I started smiley only 21 to go Confused smiley

Looks like its time to stop my BP meds. Woke up yesterday and while making coffee had a little dizzy spell so I decided to check my blood pressure and turned out to be 93/57 Confused Needless to say I didn't take my meds yesterday and kept a watch on it all day. Woke up this morning and it was still hanging at 106/63 so I don't think I will be taking them today either. I do believe the diet and exercise is working!!

The Good news is I have lost 10 lbs. since my start. The bad news is I'm stuck at 136 and haven't moved in two weeks. Still eating light, clean and healthy, increased my exercise to 2 hrs. a day/6 days a week but unfortunately as I build muscle my weight loss is at a complete stand still. Frustrated but feeling great.

Yeah me!! Weighed in at 134.4 this morning. 12 pounds gone and I've reached my goal of making it under 135. Next goal is 130. Only 197 days left to make my final goal of 120 and then I will be Beach Ready and Hatteras Bound. Woohoo...I'm doing the happy dance

11/24 Making progress and down to 133.2 this morning

12/3 Made it through Thanksgiving with the scales going up and down for a few days but settled in this morning at 132.4 The real test will be maklng it through the next few weeks and seeing if I have the strength to keep up with the loss through the holidays.

2/28 Still working at it!! Made it through the Holidays maintaining the loss but continued with my exercise and built up lots of muscle with strength training, cardio, yoga and pilates. Down to 130.8 today

I am also struggling with my extra pounds. But recently I have found a very nice solution. It works well for me. I am losing my weight online and offline. I visit the gym 3 times a week. And on the other days, I participate in an online slimming marathon. I have found a mobile group in my area code Click to follow link... So it is great support. Besides we plan meeting in real life.
