I'm stuck...

I decided that 206.5 pounds was ridiculous,so 2 weeks ago I started making small changes and have had encouraging results.I have lost 11 pounds, but for the last 3 days have been stuck at 195.0. I have increased my walk from one mile to 1 and 1/2 miles. I have to work my way up in small increments since I have an arthritic knee. Any advice to restart the loss,or am I just being impatient? Thanks!:smiley40:

good for you! 11 pounds in 2 weeks is great! don't have any great suggestions since I have some weight to drop myself but have yet to do anything about it. don't be discouraged.....if you have the time try walking twice daily if that's easier than increasing the distance for one outing.... have someone walk with you?

Here is a walking tip:Pick a place you want to be (Corolla, perhaps? :smiley1smiley and log your miles to whatever distance it is to Corolla. Set a date/goal and of course a reward! Also, keep adding time or intensity. As soon as you can do 1.5 miles easily, do 2, and so on.

Knee Tip:Step Aerobics are excellent for strenthgening knees, among many other cardio benefits. Gin Miller is the best step instructor, many others are so complicated you just end up in a state of confusion.
Try 5 minutes at a time if you are new so you learn the form well.

Barefoot Cardio:If you like to be barefoot try this video, can see a preview at thsi link Click to follow link... It is a lot harder than it looks but is a very long, lean type workout with no equipment, not even shoes. It was recommended to me a while ago because my feet kill me, I spend a lot of time in heels. I love this workout and it is a treat to be barefoot of course.

Good luck, you can do it!

Great job... I will suggest taking a look at the ratio of your protein to carb intake/consumption. Get the ratio up to 4 to 1 or higher (more protein, less carbohydrates) and you will definitely burn up the extra stored "energy" you're carrying around. Good luck!

Also don't forget that muscle weighs more then fat. If you've been working out you have probably gain a little muscle mass. Keep up the good work!

Great job Mariann!! You're off to a wonderful start! My #1 suggestion would be to stay OFF the scales. They can be the downfall to any weight loss attempt. Like Flattop says, muscle weighs more than fat......if you're increasing your activity (walking), then you're toning muscle. Keep doing what you're doing.....you'd be surprised at the difference giving up just one thing in your diet (i. e., bread, soda, sweet tea, coffee creamer, etc.) can make. Over the past couple weeks, I've cut way back on meats (only ate one chicken leg Saturday)......been getting my protein from peanut butter and protein drinks.....eating lots of fruits and veggies.....drinking more water. I don't think I'll lose a great amount of weight (although I'm seeing a slight difference in the way my clothes fit), but I feel so much better. Also, I'm not trying to be a vegetarian or anything, but I do wonder about all the "miracle grow" they give cows and chickens now days :smiley46: Anyway, keep up the good work......you can do it, and you'll feel so much better! To answer your question, yes, you are being impatient! But I say that in a loving and encouraging tone!

Losing lots of weight just takes determination and time. Stay ON the bus. Just stick with it. I dropped 80 pounds, but it took a year and a half. Treat every day like you are playing a fun game. And as beachbum 98 suggested, stay off the scale. When I first started on my weight loss journey I didn't weigh in for weeks at a time. I know that's hard, but you can try once a week, if you'd like.

I went on a plateau when I hit 170 for like 4 months! Glad I wasn't stepping up on the scale each week.

Eat good. Spend money on expensive whole grain breads and lowfat cheeses. Lowfat string cheese is a great snack. Keep lots of fresh fruits around and snack away on that.

You can do it, just allow yourself the time to do so. Eleven pounds is AWESOME. You're on a great start.

Good luck!

p.s. I guess I should change my avatar to show some skinnier legs!

if you have a smart phone, check out either the daily burn or my fitness pal apps; they are both free, i prefer my fitness pal, you can set your goals, and if you are honest with how you record your meals, you get an idea of what nutrients your deficient in and what your eating too much of, it also helps with being accountable for what you are eating. i've only lost 5lbs, but really thats all i wanted to lose, i'm at my high school weight (2003) also, try to not drink your calories; and "light" and "diet" drinks/foods almost always have aspartame in them, which some doc's think make people crave even more sugar. also try to cut out processed foods; I cut out the majority of processed foods and could tell a huge difference in my energy levels, my mood and my weight. btw carbs are not horrible for you, in fact you need some carbs, but watch what type of carbs your consuming, whole grains are your best option

Just a caution about the fruits from me. They make excellent snacks but servings should be limited to two per day as they are high in sugar therefore high in carbs. Additional snacking on the low carb veggies (a cold veggie soup to slurp is delicious and i love crunching on raw veggie sticks, too) and a handful of nuts would give better results.

Nice work, Shapely Lady. Yes!! A new Avatar!!

Eat like the Mediterraneans (sp?), good for your heart and figure, more a lifestyle than feeling like you are on some restrictive diet. I agree with Dawn/Beachbum 200%, cutting out meat for the most part and you will feel a lot better.

Just watch your calories/portions, keep active, and don't deny yourself "one horrible thing" like cookies (it is girl scout cookie season). I've been on the weight loss track for about 3 months. I eat most of the same things (cut waaaay back on fast food), I just eat them in moderation. I had 2 tagalongs yesterday, not the whole box that I would normally eat. After about a month, my body didn't crave anything, or feel like it was missing something. It adjusted. You just have to stick with it. The weight loss will start back up. That first push is just your body getting rid of everything it was holding for no reason. Now it will be slow and steady. In 3 months I've lost 30 lbs. That's just a hair above 1lbs. a week. That's a nice easy pace, that sets up for healthy living.

Sorry, not trying to get all "preachy". I had to get really in to weight loss to make it work for me.
