I don't know if you are on facebook or not, but there is a Outer Banks Vintage Scrapebook group with over 2,000 members. A lot of these folks are either natives or locals. [LEFT] [B][COLOR=#ff0000]HARBINGER[/COLOR] -[/B] Joseph [B]McCAIN[/B], 78, of Caratoke Highway, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2005. Born in Kellyton, N.C., Mr. [B]McCAIN[/B] was the son of the late P.T. and Ethel Thomas [B]McCAIN[/B], and was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth [B]McCAIN[/B]; and two sisters, Dorothy [B]BARTON[/B] and Jimmy Ruth [B]TUCKER[/B]. Joe was a Korean War veteran and retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service as a chief yeoman. He was a retired real estate broker in Virginia and North Carolina, the retired owner of Kill Devil Manor Motel, Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and the retired owner of Killdee Motel, Nags Head, N.C. He was a member of Powells Point Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Audrey Elizabeth [B] McCAIN[/B] and great-grandchild, Peyton L. [B]FOSTER[/B] of the home; two sons, Joseph "Joey" P. [B]McCAIN, JR.[/B] and wife Linda of Norfolk, Jerry F. [B] McCAIN[/B] of Chesapeake; step-son, Greg S. [B]MUSTIN[/B] of Poplar Branch, N.C.; daughters, Judy [B]APPEL[/B] and husband Jens of Quinton, Va., Jeanie [B] CLONINGER[/B] and husband Dave of Lawrenceville, Ga., Jackie [B]JACKSON[/B] and husband Jim of Portsmouth; step-daughters, Judy [B]WALKER[/B] and husband Otis of Jarvisburg, N.C., Janet [B]JENKINS[/B] and husband Chip of Coinjock, N.C., Sharon [B]JOHNSON[/B] and husband Sherwood of Currituck, N.C., Jackie [B] SZYMANSKI[/B] and husband Steve of Camden, N.C., Sandra [B]LEE[/B] and husband Tom of Kitty Hawk, N.C., Karen [B]NEWBERN[/B] and husband David of Brush, Colo.; 34 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and more on the way. Joe was a very special granddad and paw-paw and will be greatly missed. Joe is also survived by two brothers, J.T. [B]McCAIN[/B] and wife Evelyn of Soperton, Ga., and Jerald [B] McCAIN[/B] and wife Mary Ann of Montgomery, Ala.; two sisters, Inez [B]BUGBEE[/B] and husband Toby of Goodwater, Ala., and Rebecca [B]SHIVERS[/B] of Alex City, Ala. A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Powells Point Baptist Church. The Rev. Herbert [B]HEMMINGWAY[/B] will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
