I arrived at my cottage in Palmer's Island at the Dare/Currituck line, Monday morning, 1:10am. The cottage was in great shape. This morning I went to Duck and Whalehead...no big problems other than maybe the drop off from top of dunes to the beach. Where I am in Palmer's Island the drop is about 4', but no real problem.

I am amazed at the job Twiddy did making my cottage ready. It was cleaned and had all the lines and towels.

My only "problem" so far is that neither Tommy's in Duck, Food Lion in Whalehaed, nor Wee Winks in Corolla has any eggs!!!!!!!! Please take my "problem as what is is....I understand the problems that the residents and property owners of OBX have encountered, and my heart goes out to them.

Thanks Robert, you don't know the half of it, being one who is a native, an owner, a real estate developer, a real estate seller, a builder, and a rental owner. The comments on this board and on vacationbuzz.com have been both understandable and some angering. The story is much longer than this. Thanks for understanding!

Robert, I take it your in the last house at Palmer's Island(I know the owner). You'll see a home under construction on the sound just south of where you are staying and if you see a white ford truck on the site in the morning stop in and say hi.

BTW, If you go north of duck and get on the dune, and then turn around to the west you'll see the damage. The winds were mostly out of the northeast and the ocean side of the homes received most of the damage which can't be seen from the road. Come by the house and I'll take you up with me. My phone is ringing off the hook with friends asking me to check their homes and I already know what to expect.

Glad to see you made it there, Robert! My parents drove up on Sunday to see for themselves since we hadn't heard anything from Twiddy....they said the house was in great shape...same thing in Whalehead with the dunes, and the beaches were littered....we opted to postpone our trip to this Sat, 9-27-03....it would give the homeowners (if they come) to check their property out.....plus the windows were still boarded.......hows the weather? Hey! I can bring the eggs smiley

Kelly.....thanks for the offer of eggs smiley but I got a couple of dozen this morning down in Southern Shores Food Lion. Today getting a little light rain but rest of the week looks great. As I said before our cottage is in great shape as is the beach...the access is no problem The best thing right now is that there are very few people here. We went for a walk late yesterday afternoon for about 2 hours and saw one person! Gotta love it!

Were you in the beach at all? Are they allowing it? The way it sounds, you almost should wear shoes on the beach....is the Food Lion in Whalehead open that you know of?

Walked the beach yesterday and this morning.....some big pilings but thats it. Went swimming this morning, water temp around 74. Food Lion is open in whalehead but with limited hours....8:00am to 10:00pm.

Maybe we just lucked out where we are but everything is great. Going to try to see Cos who is working on a house right down the road from Palmer's Island where we are. I am sooooooooo happy that I stayed with my two weeks. Maybe you can stop by our place and say hello...I feel as if I know you. We are in Allure, Palmer's Island, 100 Baum Trail. Its just before you enter Currituck County, right after a sign that says "hidden driveway" just beyond Sandering.
