Insomnia and Exercise

Professionals will tell you that a lot of times one can help to gain sleep if you excersise more often, but not me..It just makes me sleep less.. To the point where I've done a full home workout prior to 5am most days. Its 2:45am now and I am ready to crank..Fell asleep at 8pm and hit the floor at 1am. Now I'll be awake for the rest of the day. I do my workout early and do not drink more then 24ozs of coffee a day and none after 10am.

Could your insomnia be stress induced? I have been working out a lot more in recent months, and on days where I have little stress (i.e.- not very often) I sleep well. Most days I am up around 4-4:30 a.m., despite the time I go to sleep, which is generally between 10-11:30 p.m. Suffice to say I have significant professional stress that keeps me awake often..

I think that's way too much coffee! I would back off to not more than 8 oz and see if that helps. Are you getting caffeine anywhere else? Tea, sodas? Getting moderate exercise earlier in the day (not THAT early, though- LOL) is the ticket to not being jazzed up when it's time to go to sleep. Try taking a really hot bath before bed; I've heard many people say how well it works. Getting sleep is one of the most important components to staying healthy...best wishes to you in finding a resolution

Nah..2-12oz cups of coffee for a guy that's awake 18 plus hours a day isn't that bad and all I drink other then that is water and crystal light. I've had sleeping problems since I was 20 years old..nothing new..I was just commenting on how Drs tell me to get more excersise and that will help..

Rob, I have similar sleeping habits. I usually go to bed around 11:00 PM and wake up anywhere from 4:00 - 5:00 AM no matter what. I've been on this schedule for years now and think it keeps me productive. It's amazing how much work you can do before most of the world starts moving. Some people just need less sleep. Cheers, Will

Rob~ prior to 20 years of age how much sleep did you used to average? Also, how many hours would you like to sleep now? There's all sorts of ways to trick your body...

the last few weeks I have been working 14+ hr days door to door and getting about 6 hr sleep I lost 10 pounds my sleep is good and solid for 4 + hrs and then I usually am in a half awake state . Although the doctors don't want to tell you this having a drink after work is not only helps me to sleep but also will reduce you cholesterol too . One or two I'm talking about here . I drink only decaf coffee unless I can't keep my eyes open and only diet drinks with no caffeine Seems to work for me

Amy, One of those things when I started working for a living I just didn't sleep any more, but I got an average night's sleep prior to then.. The Drs have given me every prescription sleep med there is on the market, but it is like eating candy for me..except for the xanax and I HATE that Ch!t..No one should want to be that slow.. The stricter my diet and exercise the less sleep I get. I can run 3 twenty year old athletes into the grave...:roflmao: at least until I have my 1st heart attack and then they ran me into the grave..:roflmao:

I agree...that some people just need less sleep than others. I drink a fair amount of coffee, and water otherwise, and sleep 4-6 hours but I feel fine.
Early morning hours can be very productive for some people, and if I sleep past 4 am. I feel like half the day is gone. But other smight hate that schedule,, every "body" is different IMO.
So, if you feel good, and it sounds like you live life with purpose and healthily, I say more power to ya!

Your a balls to the wall sorta guy Rob, and thats a compliment. Have you ever tried yoga, or meditation, deep breathing techniques, progressive muscle relaxation, massage or any mind over matter practices? Spa Koru is nearby if you're not sure where to start.

There's also Melatonin, though I'd be careful using it in the long haul. Healthyjoypeace mentioned the warm baths before bed, epsom salts are good for soaking the bod.

And not trying to get all personal here but one important component is your sleeping area. No TeeVee's, computers or anything stimulating. Boring books & learning to just rest if sleep/falling back to sleep doesn't happen within a certain period. :smiley16:

Hey Guys i think that mode is key in your work out and insomnia system because an extreme work out during a interval of serious sleeplessness is not suggested. For one thing, you are probably not sensation your best. You might be exhausted, weary, or simply used out. Thanks a lot!!

One thing I have found is that if I drink any alcohol after the early evening, I will wake up after maybe 4 hours, wide awake. I have been told it's because the alcohol has worn off. If I do wake up and can't get back to sleep I take a couple of benedril, sit up in a chair and read until I get sleepy. Seems to work for me.

A sleeping disorder is usually connected with lifted excitement, tension, and sorrow, and exercise effectsly affects decreasing these manifestations in the all inclusive community. At long last, exercise may decrease a sleeping disorder by its consequences for circadian rhythms (body clock).
