I found this website yesterday, these guys were on assignment working for the Discovery Channel.

That guy is an idiot. Why walk into the surf during a hurricane just to get a dramatic shot? The rest of the footage is pretty compelling stuff. I wonder if all the locals who stayed would do it again?

My first thought was "what if that house falls on his head?" My second was "I wonder how they will get that SUV out of the ocean" (when it seemed like it was going to be sucked in!)

Neat stuff, but they are idiots. By the way...was that the new Sonic that had the drive in stuff flying by?

I haven't been down since Nov 02 and Sonic wasn't built yet last year. We don't go in the summer anymore because it's just too crowded and too expensive. Our son is 22 now so we don't have to go during the summer anymore. We missed this spring 2003 but we have been going down to the outer banks about 3 times a year since 1977.

I agree the Discovery Channel should be ashamed for subjecting their employees or free lancers to the danger of Isabel or any of the hurricanes.

We were just there June 15-22 which is the most "in-season" we've gone - usually we go the first week of June, but have been there in October before.

Sonic was pretty new - I'm not even sure if it was officially open when we were there. I remember thinking - oh no, not another chain. We have such a great time eating our way through the Banks at "local" eateries.

Can't wait to come back!
