I've got relatives in Avon-- 2ndhand info. says that Avon is OK; they have phone service and roads are OK. Sounds like Rodanthe didn't get hit too badly - When I talk to my numbnuts young cousin, I'll post a message for you as to what he knows.

Power's on, and the area didn't get hit too badly. Mostly wind damage. Many stores and restaurants up and running.
