Being a life time fan of Ocracoke Island I have been looking everywhere for a little information. I thought some of you might appreciate reading what little I have found:
"Latest update from Ocracoke. Bob and I spoke briefly with Hoagy Hoggard around noon today and this is what he told us. There has been substantial dune erosion around the Airport Ramp with 50 per cent of the dune line washed away. The bridge just south of the Pony Pen has been washed away but the water does NOT connect to the ocean side. Hoagy's daughter, Kathy O'Neal drove from the Airport Ramp all the way to the north end of the island at low tide today and said the beach is like a highway and very flattened out. They have many trees down but he saw very little structural damage to those living on the island. We're getting news from just further north of us who did not fair as well. Numerous business and houses have been washed away or have severe damage. Highway 12 in places has as much as 6 feet of sand on the highway."
This taken from the Tradewinds website.
Also check out www.villagecraftsman.com For the last pictures on the island before the storm hit. They kept a good report going until the evidently lost power.
Let me know if you can find any other information from Ocracoke. I would sure appreciate it!
Thanks!
