Boy, oh boy, where to start! First of all, let me say thanks for all the concern. Me and all of my immediate family are okay. We lost power at about 1 pm on the Thurs. and then the ISP went down, so no posts from the laptop on batteries, then the phone lines went down, then even the cell phone said "All circuits busy!" All in all it IS VERY BAD OUT HERE! MAJOR DAMAGE! You out there in the outside world may know more than we do cause we go not have TV, and very little news, but a few of the things I've heard on the radio are these: (I claim no responsibility for truth, as I'm sure the urban myths will grow).
Jennette's Pier is GONE- the radio crew actually saw this in person. They said maybe 30' was left and the pier house, but all the rest of the pier was gone.
Rumors say the Kitty Hawk pier is gone too.
There is three feet of water from the ocean OVER the BYPASS in Kitty Hawk from the Kitty Hawk intersection south to about Seto's Texaco. Totally impassable in any vehicle.
Hwy 12 the beach road ranges from water standing on it and sand to totally washed away in parts of Kitty Hawk. There were several oceanfront houses that fell in, but they were the ones in danger before.
We personally saw several hangers at the Dare COunty airport blown completely apart and on top of other hangers.
TREES down EVERYWHERE! Huge pines across the highway taking down major power lines in many places. We took a short ride out around Manteo about 5 yesterday, and saw this. It will be many days before power is back up in every area.
Right now there is a CURFEW even for residents. We have been ordered to STAY IN OUR HOUSES and not leave until at least noon today.
So we won't be able to get out and take any pics today folks.
So all in all, we are thankful it wasn't worse, but we've had enough.
Going to try to hook the generator to the main computer and see if I can do more, so signing off for now. Kimco
