This is a receipt for rent for the residence at the Paul Gamiel's Hill life saving station on the beach between Eighth and Ninth Ave, Southern Shores, NC. The price covered six months rent,in 1926.

Another receipt for the same house (I think) for one whole year, 1918.

I wonder how much OBX ocenfront land went for back then? You could probably buy an acre of ocenfront land for $100 back then. Too bad my grandparents didn't buy a few dozen acres. Damn, I can't quit my job today.

Amazing! One year's rent for today's cost of a 6-pack of beer.

What kind of beer are you drinking? Must be Natural Light, or the beast (Milwaukee's Best) or some such. You must be an alright guy. I can't figure out the folks that pay $10 a six for imports you can't see through and smell like tar.

Nah...can't stand ANY light beer. I do appreciate a well made beer that has some body, flavor, and a nice hoppy finish. But you can't beat Old Milwaukee...."tastes as great as its name" AND it's cheap! Busch will do in a pinch. Heck, I've even been known to do some severe damage to a 12 pack of PBR or Black Label. BUT....some of the best cheap beer in a bottle (if you feel like splurging!) is Yuengling....either the lager or the Black & Tan. At $4-$5 a sixer for decent beer, you can't go wrong. I've been known to brew my own on a fairly regular basis and (in all modesty) it's pretty darn good. The best recipe I've come across is a dark porter called "Goat Scrotum Porter". It's like a meal in a glass and a real kick in the @$$.

I'm a Corona guy. However I like an occassional Rolling Rock or Coors for a cleaner taste. Favorite dark beer is St. Paulie Girl. Like a chocolate malt with a kick...
I've tried several of the regional microbrews and have either been disappointed or unimpressed.
When your thirsty on a hot day on the beach it all goes down like Poland Spring anyway.

I don't care for light beers or the super cheap beers since they lack flavor. I tend to switch beer brands a lot and usually just buy what is on sale. However beers like Sam Adams and some of the other "microbrews" are always welcome in my cooler on the beach.
