What the heck is Ice Plant Island? I never heard of it before. Is there some endangered shrub called an ice plant, or is there a big ice cube manufacturing facility there?

It is the island where you drive across the little bridge out to the Elizabeth Two and history musuem site in downtown Manteo, right beside the Tranquil House Inn. It has always been called that by the locals, and I believe there WAS (no more) actually an ice manufacturing plant there in the early part of the century. It is where they shoot off the fireworks on 4th of July. There is an ampitheater and park there now.
