Coquina Beach - Dog Friendly?

So happy to visit my favorite place ! We had a beach house here many years ago and fell in love with the OBX. The past 2 years have been overwhelming and I am so ready to get back to my comfort place!!! This time I will have a small beagle coming with me. I was wondering if Coquina Beach allows dog on the beach during the day? Was searching for easy parking, restrooms available and dog friendly. So looking forward to a vacation! Dog

We go to Coquina a lot - there's a sign that says no pets but every time we go, there are lots of dogs and the life guards don't seem to have an issue with them being there.

We always take our little Penny and if she does have to "go" we always pick it up. Unfortunately not everyone does so there could be poo piles in the sand. Walk at your own risk

I don’t mind dogs on the beach.
It reminds me that we have more freedom here than other places. We always took our little corgi to the beach with us. He didn’t really like it and always dug a hole under one of our beach chairs and camped there.
That being said, owners really have to step up and follow basic rules of curtesy.
A couple of years ago I saw a big shepherd doing diarrhea in the surf while the owner stood there watching! I quickly pulled the kids out!

Thank you everyone! Yes!!! Dog owners really need to be responsible for their animals! We may try- I think if we walked down a bit it may not be an issue. Given the chance of rip currents- going in the water isn't a factor. Hmm- also think we could go to Nags Head- that seems to be pet friendly.. Just really need to get away and have peace and quiet!

Nags Head allows leashed dogs in beaches 24/7/365. Leashed dogs are also allowed on the grounds of Bodie Island Lighthouse. And I've taken my dogs on leashes to Coquina Beach and no one seemed to mind.

If you’d like to make a scenic drive south on Highway 12, on Hatteras Island, there are several nice beach access parking areas, some with showers, to walk out on the beach. If you happen to have a four wheel drive vehicle, and an ORV permit, your options to get on the beach are plentiful. There are also multiple sights to see such as the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse or the ferry docks in Hatteras. (Of course a ferry ride to Ocracoke Island should be on any vacationers short list too.) Ocracoke is best to visit early in your week because the wait times for the ferry increase as the weeks drag on and kids tire of the ocean. Also cloudy days bring more ferry users, but either way, start early. Pets are welcome on the ferry as well as most establishments on Ocracoke.
Enjoy your trip!

As we head South to Frisco we stop here for a potty break and walk Frisco for a bit. Always on a leash and we pick up after him, so never had an issue.
