Winds are hitting 180 mph and it's not hit the warmest water yet. If I were anywhere near this path I would leave now.

The real challenge now is “where”…a nephew just did a final check before bugging out to Orlando last night. We’re now thinking Orlando might not be “far enough” away. Northbound 75 is a parking lot. Heading to Miami might be even worse.

Remember Wilma and how the east coast took a much bigger hit than the west (but Wilma did land in a somewhat remote - tell that to folks that did get nailed - area).

I can send you some Charmin, it’s readily available up here.

Squid Pro Quo

Hahaha! I would appreciate it, but Charmin does not do well on a septic system! So I have been told! But, thanks! Just so weird the shelves are empty. I'm thinking the longshoreman three day strike may have set it off....who knows! Well, they have a 66 percent raise now and should be happy! One heck of a raise! (No politics intended...it's just a thing). Life!

Bentmtn

I have never heard that about Charmin before and I have been on septic tanks since 1978. I pump mine about every 5-7 years and never had a problem.

If you are interested to listen to the Florida HAM radio repeater network you can go to the link below and select listen live. Once the storm gets there it should be pretty active.

I would say from Fort Myers north to Steinhatchee (Gainesville) I suggest watching this video from Mark Sudduth from Hurricane Track that was posted 20 mins ago
The water is abnormally warm right up to the coast of western Florida there is no dodging this storm it will intensify today and there is no weather conditions in front of it that will lessen its impact

Yup, he’s one of our “regulars” from June to Dec. …actually there’s a member on here that Marks stuck sensor stuff to her cottage before.

He’s suggesting RSW to GNV as evac destinations? I must have missed something (I’ll listen again, appreciate the link) as RSW (the area fleeing from) is in the dirty quad and looking to get hammered.

EDIT - just speed listed to Mark…I misunderstood your post, apologies. Mark is saying if you are located in that RSW to GNV patch, get out! And, he’s right. ER/First responders are evacing coastal areas - somewhat rare- everyone is getting out.

This is the latest from the National Hurricane Center. I’m not sure why, but their reports are coming in late. If a hurricane is forecast for landfall they issue their forecasts every three hours. This one came in more than a half hour late and I am not sure why. Once again it has moved up to a category 5.

Florida State Troopers are camped out in Starke along 301. They were at Walmart around dinner time doing their shopping. I live just down the road a piece and work in Gainesville, lots of old motor courts and a new Holiday Inn Express in Starke. Lots of RV parks and campgrounds too

I know Starke. That’s where Stumpnocker was manufactured and Bundy was fried.

Stumpknocker/Swamphead is over by I-75 in Gainesville, a good 50+ minute drive from me. So yes, in the neighborhood but not in Starke. Raiford is home to FSP and some of those folks who work at the facility do indeed live in nearby Starke. We have quite a few CI/work camps in the area too. Probably because this area is so protected from hurricanes.

I’ll post some hotel info for anyone needing a last minute sleepover if need be. We were one of the last gas stations locally to actually have plenty left yesterday…

Mr. Griffis sold it years ago. One helluva good boat.

That will only work if he gave them a little tug and said "that ain't going nowhere."

The garage door is the Achilles heel for the roof. If the door fails, the wind into the garage will lift the roof. Park one vehicle inside against the door and another one outside against the door.

It was a joke dude. You don't need to explain the "proper" technique for strapping down a house during a hurricane. Laughing smiley Laughing smiley Laughing smiley

I don't strap my house down. I do strap our 2 outdoor A/C units down. Also I put a piece of plywood on the interior side of the attic hatch. I learned during our first hurricane here the attic hatch was lifting on it own. Even with our fortified roof I'm not taking any chances. USA Flag
