It was designated a vehicle free area during RegNeg negotiations.

Squid Pro Quo is correct south beach has been closed since 15 february 2012. as part of the Audubon/SELC lawsuit. I think I was the last one to legally drive and fish on it before it closed.
You can still get to the point or down to Frisco by the back road/ inside trail but not on the beach.

I think that old ramp 45 is still opened for special fishing tournaments, but otherwise the south beach is closed.

Thanks for the history! We did find the barriers up when we tried to check it out. Is it only closed to ORVs, in that you could walk up there on your own, or is it completely closed to people altogether?

You can walk it from either end or park in the back of Cape Point Campground (Ramp 45) and enter that way.
