"Was at the beach this afternoon, and a gentleman got attacked by a shark at Onslow Public Beach Access 4 in NTB. Looked like he nearly lost his calf.

NTB doesn’t utilize flag system at all, people were swimming in the immediate area where the shark just bit twice. Hopefully this changes things, people get lost to rip tide here too by swimming when they shouldn’t."

I get that, but it's not that the sharks just swim in one spot. And like they say, always test the water for sharks first. Use a table spoon and dip out some water. Taste it and if it is salty, there are sharks in the water

I guess we just need to figure out which ones will attack and which ones are just swimming past. Just like tamayo a pro surfer knew the area and still a shark got him in Hawaii. The men in the gray suits. I saw a TikTok video where a bull shark was attacking a boat motor over 8 times and seriously wrecked the motor. 2 huge cobia were swimming with him and the boat was fishing to snag the fobia….almost looked like the bull shark was pissed that they were fishing for his cobia buddies. It was drone footage and during the attack the cobia was still with the shark.

I fear Bulls more than any other...conjecture is that they bite first (vs bump and then bite). They are just ornery...years ago there was a bull bite on Ocracoke, then over the span of the next week encounters were reported (none fatal), each one more northerly than the previous one. All reports were it looked like a bull. The last bite was around the Rodanthe Pier.

Out in the water, the pucker effect was huge that week.

It is a great movie! Funny that Greg mentioned it today. I was driving back from Food Lion earlier listening to "Running on Empty" by my all time fav Jackson Browne and thought about that movie.

Lt. Dan is the best! What a great actor.

An experience from my teen years... My father's best friend was making a big pot of wild goose stew outside after a day's hunt for the crowd. I remember reading about attack # 12. We didn't buy down here until 2003, but while down that year in 2003, my daughter was watching Shark Week that July (she was out of college and living in NOVA) and called us knowing we were down here and warned us to stay out of the ocean in her drama-esqe way. The guy from Avon saw his fiance in the surf getting attacked by a shark and went in to save her and was bitten and died. She survived. I think they were a part of the Eastern European crew that come over in the summer to work.
