I sure hope they find or have found something.

Sad and unfortunate situation for all involved. Like many here, I wish I could offer help. Everyone seems booked for the season. Really hope something works out as it is bad press for OBX rentals and business in general. I really hope the PM / owner is doing everything it can (even taking a loss) to help. The damage this can cause goes way further than the cost of the rental.

I'm so sorry this happened to you and your group. I think this probably occurs more than we know but we just don't hear about it.

We had a similar situation last summer in Asheville when we went to Biltmore. We had an AirBnB house rented and on our way to Asheville we got a message from the owner saying there was a water leak and the house wouldn't be fixed in time for us to stay (only two nights, not an entire week). They refunded every penny to us and we were able to find a hotel but it was only 4 of us. I hope you can find out what happened with the house so you can know what recourse to take, if any.

I hope somebody goes by this place and can provide additional information. Might not be able to tell by a drive by, but who knows.

I you want to take another chance and can defer to September 26th, I’ll give you a good deal on a 7bd across the street from the ocean. I wish I could do more. I know how disappointed I would be.

Although I can't offer any assistance with a rental, if you secured anything, including the golf cart rental, on a credit card, check the insurance/trip interruption (if any) that it may offer. I have had good luck, under totally different circumstances, in the past.

Thank you all for your kindness. We have been in touch with Twiddy today and of course they are very sorry this happened and I truly believe they did everything they could to find us another place. There just aren’t any available. They said they will reimburse us for the golf cart if it’s not re rented. Still not sure what kind of renovation is going on. No one seems to know.
So , no vaca for us. We told family members to cancel there flights. And we won’t be taking the 13 hour drive. Better luck next time I guess.
We will be back. Duck is our happy place!
Thanks again for your help and kindness

SO sorry this happened to you. We also had a rental canceled on us years ago with Brindley. They were very upfront about the reason, there were structural issues with the house. But Brindley offered us a choice of houses, we went from a 3 bedroom, semi oceanfront, one of the smallest houses in Whalehead to a 7 bedroom oceanfront in Pine Island. Of course if there is no inventory I guess there is not much they can do. I would hope that they would at least offer you a discount on their fees on a future rental.

Wow! I am so sorry and can only imagine how disappointed you all must be. I hope something unexpected but wonderful presents itself and allows you all to gather anyway.

That 48 hour notification would kill us, we're all ready on the road 48 hours before check-in

I just rode my bike past that house. There was no indication that it was occupied (no cars, people, or towels) and no construction visible from the outside.

We are all speculating at this point. The limited information could mean many things. Maybe no cars/trucks because they are waiting on materials or inspections. I think it’s a better sign that there is no one there. At least you don’t see towels, and people coming back from the beach. That would be a bad sign.

Just my two cents, but now we are all guessing.

^^ you are right Wowed. Lack of vehicles could be explained. Apologies for my knee-jerk reaction.

It could be heavy renter damage a electrical problem water damage that you can't see. I agree the 3 pages of speculation and blaming is not doing any good. Twitty is in the business to rent the house if they couldn't on such short notice there may be a reason well beyond their control.

If Twitty can't be "gracious" enough to explain the problem, I would consider any business with them to be a past experience...as in "never again".

Yep limited supply on the island , let’s cross off 1/3 of rentals. Perfect plan

Only need one phone call from the company to explain the situation and handle the guest's question. No big deal. It's called professionalism. You know the old rule....get back with the question within 24 hours. Easy peasy! Geez! Been there...done that...for over 40 years in crazy situations.

Sometimes parts fail at the wrong time. Or lightening strikes….

This Spring something broke at my friends house and the renters got a call roughly 48 hours before check in.

The availability calendar on the Twiddy website for this property indicates that the guests checking in on 7/4 have stayed at this property for 10 years. Wonder what they are going to think if their reservation also gets cancelled. OMG smiley

Meg

How can you tell how many years someone has stayed at the property?

On the Twiddy website for this particular house, under availability at the bottom of the page, it shows that the house is booked and shows a small symbol. Hover over the symbol and the text appears.
